What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Sigma Pi Fraternity International's Zeta Epsilon Chapter is a Social Fraternity. The purpose of the organization is to aid the community through volunteer work, provide housing to our Fraternity Brothers, provide meals to our Fraternity Brothers, and allow our members to network within the organization as well as outside of the organization through our social programs. The annual Haunted Haus Fundraiser is a primary example of the assistance that we offer to the surrounding community. Sigma Pi Fraternity's Zeta Epsilon Chapter holds an annual two day Haunted Haus and all proceeds go towards the Pigs N' Heat Foundation created by the City of Houghton's Police and Fire Departments. The purpose of the Haunted Haus is to gather funds to provide local area residents temporary relief if their home is damaged in a fire/disaster.

28 Held our annual Haunted Haus for the Pigs N' Heat Foundation. After covering our expenses for the creation of the event, we are able to donate $1,000 dollars to the Pigs N' Heat Foundation. The Foundation was created by the City of Houghton Police and Firefighters. This Foundation provides temporary relief to local residents that have had their homes damaged in a fire/accident. It is important in helping and supporting our local community.

Our corporation elects a new Alumni Executive Board every year the mid of April when our Fraternity holds its annual formal. This year during the exchange of duties there was confusion as to who was responsible for taking care of the 990 form. Typically the current treasurer is supposed to apply for an extension to allow the new treasurer time to file the 990. This year the extension did not get filed, and due to confusion of who was responsible the 990 was never completed. Since the board changed duty there was no information sent or received that the 990 was late when the due date had rolled by. The Alumni Executive Board consists of past Brothers of the Fraternity. These were Brothers who attended Michigan Technological University and pledged Sigma Pi Fraternity Zeta Epsilon Chapter. These alumni members volunteer 100% for the duty of the Executive Board. Outside of the organization these alumni have full time employment positions, as well as have responsibilities of family and home when not at work. To ensure a late file will not occur again, the Board has decided to change how the 990 filling responsibilities are taken care of. Like said before, currently the newly elected member has less than a month to file to meet the may deadline. The past treasurer is supposed to file an extension to allow more time for this to take set. We are going to now run on the order of the current treasurer will have to file the 990 form for the year they held the majority of the position. So, before the treasurer can hand off the position, they must complete and file the 990 form. Ideally the newly elected treasurer will shadow so that next year the process can continue smoothly. We ask that the late fee penalty be waived for our Fraternity. Currently our revenue just covers the costs of running the Fraternity, maintaining our 100+ year old house, and paying our dues to Sigma Pi. Our chapter spends a great deal of time volunteering to the community that we live in. This penalty would prove to be a burden on the active chapter and possibly take away from the budget the chapter uses to volunteer their time for community activities such as our Haunted Haus.
