28 Commissioning of the Fleet - An opening event for every yachting season is the Commissioning of the Fleet and dinner dance. The commissioning or blessing of the fleet is a maritime and fisherman's tradition dating back to the early Mediterranean era. Boats and all who sail in them are blessed, with prayers to return them to land in safety and with bountiful catch.
