What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? TO PROMOTE, INDUCE, FOSTER, ENCOURAGE, AND DEVELOP NEW INDUSTRIES AND BUSINESSES IN THE CITY OF SISSETON AND THE COUNTY OF ROBERTS, BY ADVERTISEMENT AND INDUCEMENTS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PEOPLE OF SISSETON AND ROBERTS COUNTY, SOUTH DAKOTA, AND BETTER THE ECONOMIC AND COMMERCIAL LIFE OF THE CITY OF SISSETON AND COUNTY OF ROBERTS IN GENERAL; TO AID IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND RELOCATION OF NEW BUSINESSES IN AND TO THE CITY OF SISSETON AND COUNTY OF ROBERTS, BY PERSONAL CONTACTS, ADVERTISEMENT, AND OTHER MEANS IN ORDER TO BETTER THE ECONOMIC AND COMMERCIAL LIFE OF THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE; TO PROVIDE AID TO BUSINESSES THAT WISH TO RELOCATE OR EXPAND OPERATIONS TO THE CITY OF SISSETON OR COUNTY OF ROBERTS.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 1) To help with the housing shortage in Sisseton, SEDC completed construction of a new two-bedroom, 1,450 sq. ft. home within the city limits and is offering the house for sale.2) SEDC assisted potential new businesses in seeking commercial space to rent. In 2013, three new businesses opened in Sisseton.3) SEDC encouraged development of new businesses and entrepreneurship by providing education training opportunities for individuals from Sisseton and Roberts County.4) SEDC encouraged community development and improvement by assisting the City of Sisseton with plans for the demolition of tax delinquent properties and improvement of the remaining empty lots.5) SEDC assisted in coordinating a Farmers Market during the summer months to provide area gardeners and farmers with an opportunity to market their products.
