THE ROOSEVELT JAZZ BAND BOOSTER CLUB IS ORGANIZED TO PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ PROGRAMS BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR JAZZ PROGRAM STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN MUSICAL ACTIVITIES, BY PROMOTING STUDENTS' RECORDINGS AND PRODUCTIONS, AND BY ORGANIZING AND CONDUCTING FUND RAISING AND PERFORMANCE EVENTS.

AND EVENTS, INCLUDING THE 25TH ANNUAL BIG BAND DANCE AND AUCTION, TWO PUBLIC PERFORMANCES AND TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OUTREACH PERFORMANCES OF ELLINGTON'S JAZZ NUTCRACKER IN THE ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS THEATER. ESTIMATED TOTAL ATTENDANCE WAS OVER 1000. JAZZ BAND I PERFORMED ALONG WITH FOUR OTHER TOP AREA JAZZ BANDS AT THE STARBUCK'S-SPONSORED HOT JAVA COOL JAZZ AT THE PARAMOUNT THEATRE. OTHER PERFORMANCES INCLUDED THE EARSHOT JAZZ FESTIVAL, SUNSET CLUB AND END OF YEAR CONCERT AT ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL. JAZZ COMBOS WERE HIRED CONSISTENTLY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO PROVIDE MUSIC AT SPECIAL EVENTS SUCH AS GALAS AND FUND-RAISERS, GIVING STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM IN SMALLER GROUPS. ALSO OF NOTE IS JAZZ BAND I'S 3RD PLACE WIN IN THE PRESTIGIOUS ESSENTIALLY ELLINGTON COMPETITION IN NEW YORK CITY. CURRENT PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS AND A PROGRAM PROFILE ARE ALWAYS UPDATED ON THE ROOSEVELT JAZZ WEBSITE AT WWW.ROOSEVELTJAZZ.ORG. DURING THE 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR THE ROOSEVELT JAZZ GROUPS PARTICIPATED IN THE FOLLOWING FESTIVALS AND RECEIVED THESE AWARDS: JAZZ BAND I -3RD PLACE, ESSENTIALLY ELLINGTON COMPETITION, NEW YORK CITY, MAY 2013 SWEEPSTAKES WINNER AT CLARK COLLEGE FESTIVAL, VANCOUVER, WA, JANUARY 2013 PARTICIPANT BELLEVUE COLLEGE JAZZ FESTIVAL, FEBRUARY 2013 - JAZZ BAND II- PARTICIPANT CLARK COLLEGE JAZZ FESTIVAL, VANCOUVER, WA, JANUARY 2013 PARTICIPANT LIONEL HAMPTON JAZZ FESTIVAL, FEBRUARY 2013 JAZZ BAND III - PARTICIPANT VIKING JAZZ FESTIVAL, POULSBO, WA, JANUARY 2013. PARTICIPANT RENO JAZZ FESTIVAL, APRIL 2013. VOCAL JAZZ- PARTICIPANT, RENO JAZZ FESTIVAL, APRIL 2013 JAZZ BAND I AND VOCAL JAZZ ARE DAILY CLASSES WHICH MEET DURING THE REGULAR SCHOOL DAY. JAZZ II/III AND VOCAL JAZZ II MEET 2-3 DAYS PER WEEK AFTER SCHOOL. ALL CLASSES ARE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND WORKSHOPS AND CLINICS OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID WAS DISTRIBUTED BY THE BOOSTERS TO STUDENT MUSICIANS TO COVER DUES, AS WELL AS FESTIVAL AND TRAVEL EXPENSES.
