CHARITY CARE MULTIPLE RESIDENTS RECEIVED FINANCIAL BENEFIT FROM THE BENEVOLENT FUND IN 2013, TOTALING 161,843. COMMUNITY BENEFIT AND OUTREACH DURING 2013, IT BECAME APPARENT THAT EPWORTH VILLA EMPLOYEES AND RESIDENTS WERE INVOLVED IN MANY GOOD THINGS IN THE COMMUNITY, VOLUNTEERING, FUND RAISING, PROVIDING MEETING SPACES, ETC. BUT IT ALSO BECAME APPARENT THAT THERE WAS NO PLACE WHERE ALL OF THESE GOOD THINGS WERE TRACKED, AND THE THOUGHT WAS IF WE COULD PULL ALL OF THIS INFORMATION TOGETHER WE COULD CREATE EFFICIENCIES IN TRACKING, ALSO MAXIMIZE THE IMPACT OF OUR EFFORTS. THIS RESULTED IN THE FORMATION OF EPWORTH VILLA'S SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE. THE PURPOSE OF THE COMMITTEE IS TO GATHER THE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE EFFORTS, TO PROVIDE AN ANNUAL CONSOLIDATED REPORTING. THE COMMITTEE IS CO-CHAIRED BY THE VICE PRESIDENT OF ADVANCEMENT (PHILANTHROPY, DEVELOPMENT, SALES AND MARKETING) AND THE VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND ENGAGEMENT (F/K/A HUMAN RESOURCES). AN ARTICLE FROM HELPGUIDE.ORG STATES, "ONE OF THE BETTER-KNOWN BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING IS THE IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY. UNPAID VOLUNTEERS ARE OFTEN THE GLUE THAT HOLDS A COMMUNITY TOGETHER. VOLUNTEERING ALLOWS YOU TO CONNECT TO YOUR COMMUNITY AND MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE. HOWEVER, VOLUNTEERING IS A TWO-WAY STREET, AND IT CAN BENEFIT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AS MUCH AS THE CAUSE YOU CHOOSE TO HELP. DEDICATING YOUR TIME AS A VOLUNTEER HELPS YOU MAKE NEW FRIENDS, EXPAND YOUR NETWORK, AND BOOST YOUR SOCIAL SKILLS."
