UWAC WORKS TO IMPROVE LIVES BY MOBILIZING THE CARING POWER OF COMMUNITIES THROUGH PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES THAT ENSURE OUR CHILDREN ENTER SCHOOL READY TO LEARN AND GRADUATE ON TIME, THAT EVERY FAMILY IS FINANCIALLY SECURE AND THAT EVERYONE HAS GOOD HEALTH.

A WOMAN'S PURSE IS THE WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE OF UWAC, AND HELPS FOSTER YOUTHS, AGES 16 TO 21, TRANSITION FROM FOSTER CARE TO INDEPENDENCE. A WOMAN'S PURSE IS PART OF A NATIONAL WOMEN'S MOVEMENT AT MORE THAN 250 UNITED WAYS ACCROSS THE COUNTRY. A WOMAN'S PURSE FOCUSES IT STRENGTHS AND INVESTMENTS ON A PARTNERSHIP WITH ADAMS COUNTY CHILDREN AND YOUTH SERVICES'INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM. THE INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM IS THE COUNTY'S ONLY SAFETY NET FOR FOSTER YOUTHS TRANSITIONING TO SELF- SUFFICIENCY. BY MAKING AN INVESTMENT TO BETTER PREPARE AND ADVISE THEM DURING THE EMANCIPATION PROCESS AND SUPPORT THEM DURING AND AFTER THEIR TRANSITION, FOSTER YOUTH CAN AQUIRE THE LIFE-LONG SKILLS AND CONNECTIONS THEY NEED TO SUCCEED. MEMBER'S OF A WOMAN'S PURSE SERVE AS MENTORS TO THE FOSTER YOUTHS, HELP THEM SECURE NEEDED SERVICES, PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR EDUCATION AND LIFE'S UNEXPECTED COSTS, AND SERVE AS A FORCE OF STABILITY IN THEIR LIVES. THE WOMEN SHARE THEIR TIME, TALENTS, AND TREASURES TO HELP THEM WORK TOWARD INDEPENDENT LIVING. THE CALLIE AWARDS CELEBRATION HONORS EXCEPTIONAL WOMEN IN ADAMS COUNTY. THE HONOREES ARE BOTH ACCOMPLISHED AND INSPIRATIONAL, AND ARE RECOGNIZED IN THEIR FIELD OF ENDEAVOR, ARE WOMEN WHO HAVE SERVED THE COMMUNITY FOR A LIFETIME OR ARE AN OUTSTANDING HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE STUDENT.
