DONATIONS RAISED THROUGH OUR PROGRAMS PRIMARILY BENEFIT TWO OTHER NON- PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT SUPPORT THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS COMMUNITY. ONE OF THESE IS THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION, A NATIONAL DONOR-SUPPORTED ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO ATTACKING CYSTIC FIBROSIS FROM EVERY ANGLE. THEIR FOCUS IS TO SUPPORT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FOR NEW DRUGS TO FIGHT THE DISEASE, IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THOSE WITH CF, AND ULTIMATELY TO FIND A CURE. WE ALSO BENEFIT THE CF REACHING OUT FOUNDATION, A GEORGIA BASED ORGANIZATION THAT WORKS THROUGH THE CF CARE CENTERS TO IDENTIFY AND AID CF FAMILIES WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH THE HIGH COST OF CARING FOR THE DISEASE. IN ADDITION, WE USE OUR ORGANIZATION TO PROMOTE THE BENEFITS OF EXERCISE AS PART OF A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, AND PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS TO PARTICIPATE IN ATHLETIC EVENTS.
FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28
TEAM 65ROSES, OUR AWARENESS-RAISING AND FUNDRAISING TEAM OF RUNNERS, PARTICIPATES ANNUALLY IN THE PUBLIX GEORGIA MARATHON, HALF-MARATHON AND 5K DURING THE THIRD WEEKEND IN MARCH. WE RECRUIT RUNNERS TO PARTICIPATE ON THE TEAM, SUPPLY THEM WITH A TEAM SHIRT, TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES, TOOLS TO FUNDRAISE ON OUR BEHALF, AND A PRE- AND POST-RACE CELEBRATION. OUR 2014 TEAM OF OVER 80 RUNNERS REACHED OUT TO THEIR FRIENDS, FAMILIES, NEIGHBORS AND CO-WORKERS TO RAISE MONEY AND AWARENESS TO BENEFIT THE CF COMMUNITY. FOR SOME OF OUR TEAM MEMBERS, WHICH INCLUDES SOME INDIVIDUALS WITH CYSTIC FIBROSIS, THIS WAS THE FIRST HALF OR FULL MARATHON THEY HAVE EVER RUN. TEAM 65ROSES ALSO BRINGS NEARLY 200 VOLUNTEERS TO STAFF WATER/HYDRATION STOPS AT THE PUBLIX RACES IN MARCH AND AT OTHER RACES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, BRINGING AWARENESS OF CYSTIC FIBROSIS TO THE ATLANTA RUNNING COMMUNITY, WITH SOME RACES INCLUDING MORE THAN 15,000 RUNNERS. ROSEBUDS, OUR "KIDS HELPING KIDS WITH CF" RUNNING TEAM, PARTICIPATES IN TWO RUNNING EVENTS EACH YEAR. IN THE FALL/WINTER EVENT, OUR TEAM OF YOUNG RUNNERS COLLECTS DONATIONS OF GIFT CARDS TO BE GIVEN TO NEEDY CF FAMILIES DURING THE HOLIDAYS. IN THE SPRING EVENT, THE ROSEBUDS COLLECT CASH DONATIONS TO BE GIVEN TO THE CF FOUNDATION. BOTH EVENTS SHOW CHILDREN, SOME WITH CYSTIC FIBROSIS THEMSELVES, THAT EXERCISE CAN BE FUN AND CAN MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER, AND TEACHES THEM THE SPIRIT OF PHILANTHROPY. THE SPRING EVENT, A "KIDS MARATHON," LETS CHILDREN RUN 25 MILES IN MILE INCREMENTS AT THEIR OWN TIME, FOLLOWED BY A 1.2 MILE GROUP RACE, TEACHING THEM THE HABIT OF RUNNING ON A REGULAR BASIS.
FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 29
THE BIG PEACH SIZZLER 10K, AN ANNUAL LABOR DAY FOOT RACE IN ATLANTA, IS HOSTED BY AND BENEFITS THE ORGANIZATION. WE PROVIDE A FIRST-CLASS, CERTIFIED 6.2 MILE RACE COURSE WITH POLICE PROTECTION AT EVERY INTERSECTION, WATER STATIONS ALONG THE COURSE, EVENT T-SHIRTS, AWARDS FOR TOP FINISHERS, AND A FINISH LINE EXPO OF REFRESHMENTS AND SERVICES. THE SEPTEMBER 2013 RACE INCLUDED OVER 1800 RUNNERS AND NEARLY 200 VOLUNTEERS, PROVIDING A TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF AND SUPPORT FOR THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS COMMUNITY.
