YESS-LA AIMED TO HELP CURRENT AND FORMER FOSTER YOUTH TRANSITION SUCCESSFULLY INTO ADULTHOOD. FUNDED THROUGH THE LOS ANGELES DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES, YESS-LA PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS RECEIVED IN-HOME VISITS, ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING, ACADEMIC ASSESSMENTS, AND ACCESS TO WEB-BASED AND LOCAL RESOURCES. DEPENDING ON THEIR AGE, PARTICIPANTS ALSO RECEIVED TUTORING (AGES 1415) OR LIFE SKILLS TRAINING (AGES 1621). THE CALIFORNIA CONNECTS PROGRAM GRANT CONCLUDED ON DECEMBER 31, 2013. THE CALIFORNIA CONNECTS PROGRAM OFFERED A MULTI-PRONGED APPROACH TO INCREASING DIGITAL LITERACY AND BROADBAND ACCESS FOR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES FOR WHOM COMPUTER AND INTERNET ACCESS IS STILL A CHALLENGE. FUNDED BY A BROADBAND TECHNOLOGY OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE'S NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION, CALIFORNIA CONNECTS PROVIDED INTENSIVE OUTREACH AND HANDS-ON TRAINING TO STUDENTS, WHO, IN TURN, EDUCATED OVER 60,000 NEW BROADBAND USERS AND INFLUENCED NEARLY 10,000 NEW BROADBAND ADOPTERS OVER THREE YEARS.
