Mission Statement
Andover Chamber Music Series, doing business as Mistral, is a unique chamber music series founded by Julie and Michael Brower, 17 years ago! As you know, Mistral is the name of the powerful Provencal wind that blows through the French countryside, unsettling people and getting under their skin. For us, the name embodies its mysterious, powerful quality conveyed in the movie, Chocolat, where people are never the same after experiencing it.MISTRAL has long been the name of our ensemble-in- residence, and the name we have used when performing in series outside of Andover, but as we have been building a loyal following in Boston and other towns, we feel that transitioning to MISTRAL as the name of the organization itself will simplify who we are. When you come to a MISTRAL concert you are stepping into our living room for a couple of hours to share what is important, both in music and in life. From Proust readings about memory and love, to The Gypsy Spirit, Voices of Nature, and Souvenirs from Abroad, our concerts find common threads in programs which merge the old with the new and try to transport you to new emotional heights. We only program works when we are certain that you will love them as much as we do, and we are proud to feel that that you have come to trust us. We plan to keep our concerts unstuffy and fun, with plenty of high jinks, energy, and personal connection to you. Chamber music the way its supposed to be! Please take a look around our website which is just about to embark on a whole new design and look. Thanks for your patience as we make all the technical transitions in the next few months. We will try to overcome my technical challenges and get to work down-loading (or is it up-loading?) more sound clips from past concerts. Weve begun loading clips of concert onto Youtube (we have a station! or is it a channel?) Facebook is the best way to stay in close touch with us, so if you engage in such pastimes, please like our page to stay connected, get photos and see/hear video clips of our concerts. We urge you to come back as often as you can to enjoy our concerts and to rely on Mistral for the power and pleasure of music.
