FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1; ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 2013
THE MMRF IN 2013 LAUNCHED TWO FIRST OF THEIR KIND OPEN ACCESS PLATFORMS - THE MMRF RESEARCHER GATEWAY FOR RESEARCHERS AND CLINICIANS AND THE MMRF COMMUNITY GATEWAY FOR PATIENTS AND CAREGIVERS. THE MMRF RESEARCHER GATEWAY PROVIDES ACCESS TO COMPREHENSIVE GENOMIC AND CLINICAL DATA ON NEWLY DIAGNOSED MYELOMA PATIENTS TO SCIENTISTS AND RESEARCHERS WORLDWIDE, AND THE MMRF COMMUNITY GATEWAY BRINGS TOGETHER MYELOMA PATIENTS OF ALL TYPES AND PROVIDES THEM DISEASE, RESEARCH AND TREATMENT INFORMATION THAT IS SPECIFIC TO THEIR INDIVIDUAL CIRCUMSTANCES. TOGETHER, THESE GATEWAYS FULFILL THE VISION OF ESTABLISHING THE FIRST "BIG DATA, OPEN ACCESS, GLOBAL PLATFORM" TO ACCELERATE DISCOVERY AS WELL AS NOVEL AND TARGETED THERAPIES IN MULTIPLE MYELOMA. THE MMRF MADE SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS CLINICALLY IN 2013 WITH THE APPROVAL OF POMALYST (POMALIDOMIDE, CELGENE), THE SECOND NEW DRUG FOR RELAPSED/REFRACTORY MULTIPLE MYELOMA IN LESS THAN A YEAR. ADDITIONALLY, THROUGH ITS CLINICAL RESEARCH NETWORK, THE MMRC OPENED TWO NEW TRIALS OF NOVEL TREATMENTS FOR PATIENTS, FOR A TOTAL OF 10 ONGOING ACTIVE TRIALS AND THERE ARE ANOTHER 10 IN THE STARTUP PHASE FOR EARLY 2014. THE MMRC TISSUE BANK ALSO ADVANCED FIVE NEW TISSUE RESEARCH PROJECTS TO EXPAND OUR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW MYELOMA CAN BE DETECTED AND HOW IT EVOLVES OVER TIME.
