	THE MALCOLM J. MAYO POST #5422 (POST), CONTINUES TO MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WILMINGTON COMMUNITY AND OUR NATION. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY RAISING FUNDS THROUGH PUBLIC SUPPORT OF THE MANY EVENTS HELD BY THE POST THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AS WELL AS MONETARY DONATIONS RECEIVED. THE POST USES THE FUNDS RAISED FOR OPERATING COSTS AND BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS AND TO SUPPORT LOCAL SCHOOLS AND ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING YOUTH PROGRAMS, NURSING HOMES, MILITARY MEN IN ACTIVE DUTY, AND MANY OTHER PROGRAMS. FINANCIAL AIDE CONTRIBUTIONS WERE MADE TO VFW MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO SUFFERED LOSSES RESULTING FROM THE TORNADO WHICH DEVASTED THE WILMINGTON AREA. THE POST CONTINUES TO PROVIDE FRESH FRUIT AND SNACKS ON A WEEKLY BASIS TO THE MANTENO AND LASALLE VETERANS HOMES. THESE RESIDENTS ARE ALSO PROVIDED WITH LUNCH TWO TIMES A YEAR AT THE VFW ALONG WITH OUTSIDE PICNICS AND ACTIVITIES FOR THEM. THE POST ALSO CONTINUES TO DONATE MONEY TO OTHER ORGANIZATION/INDIVIDUALS WITH HIGH MEDICAL BILLS. CONTRIBUTIONS OF OVER $8,000 WERE MADE TO OPERATION CARE PACKAGE. HONOR GUARDS PROVIDE INTERMITTENT SEVICES FOR VETERAN'S AND THEIR FAMILIES AT ABRAHAM LINCOLN NATIONAL CEMETERY.
