ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM - The organization represents recreational river running interests on the Federal Advisory Committee charged with advising the U.S. Secretary of the Interior on how to best manage Glen Canyon Dam to comply with the mandates of the Grand Canyon Protection Act. The organizations representatives attended all meetings of the Techinical Work Group Adaptive Management Work Group during FY 2014, participated in related ad hoc committees, communicated with program stakeholders, and wrote articles for the Boatmans Quarterly Review to educate our river running audience. Much of our FY 2014 work also revolved around the Long Term Experimental Management Plan EIS Environmental Impact Statement - see below. |

LONG TERM EXPERIMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN LTEMP EIS - This plan will define how Glen Canyon Dam is operated how the river corridor through Grand Canyon is managed for the next 15 - 20 years. The Draft LTEMP EIS was a work-in-progress throughout FY 2014 as the cooperating agencies Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service further refined the draft plan including the new hybrid alternative that may emerge as the preferred alternative for the EIS. GCRG participated in swing weighting exercises to establish priorities resource ranking for the LTEMP EIS. We reached out to the Superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park to discern common goals for this process. GCRG networked with other environmental groups on strategy and messaging, published regular articles in our newsletters print email formats and formed an LTEMP Action Group to provide both a sounding board a catalyst for making our participation in this process as effective as it can be. |

Photographs datasheets are analyzed, compiled and disseminated in a report to the Grand Canyon Monitoring Research Center GCMRC and subsequently posted on the AAB photo gallery online and the GIS Campsite Atlas. The AAB principal investigator served as a speaker on our Guides Training Seminar river tirp to discuss beach change provide program oversight/dataset assessment. GCRG also published an Adopt-a-Beach article in Volume 26 4 Winter 2013/14 of the Boatmans Quarterly Review. |

LITTLE COLORADO RIVER LCR CONFLUENCE DEVELOPMENT - The organization continues to work in strong oppostion to a proposed development called the Grand Canyon Escalade on the east rim of the Grand Canyon near the confluence of the Little Colorado and Colorado Rivers. GCRG believes that the proposed development which would include a massive development on the rim, as well as a tramway down to river level with an amphitheater, a restaurant and a raised river walk raises serious questions about the impact of up to 3 million visitors a year to an area that is remote, ecologically sensitive and sacred to numerous tribes, as well as a direct threat to the wilderness qualities of Grand Canyon itself. GCRGs efforts in FY 2014 included sending regular updates to our members and disseminating the lastest press coverage by email and through social media, communicating/strategizing with other non-profits including the Grand Canyon Trust and Save the Confluence the Navajo families who would be directly affected by the development, and publishing an article in the Fall 2013 issue of the Boatmans Quarterly Review. |

GENERAL NOTE The organization has only one permanent, part-time staff member, the Executive Director, who generally works 30 hours/week. As is common with many smaller nonprofit organizations, the Executive Director fills many roles, including membership management and development, program and office administrator, bookkeeper, etc. Grand Canyon River Guides relies heavily on its members and volunteers to manage its programs and achieve its mission. For example, its keynote publication, the Boatmans Quarterly Review and its Adopt-a-Beach research program would not exist without the significant contributions of volunteers. The value of such services and contributions is not reflected in the financial statements. |
