    The Bo H. Holmgreen Foundation has set aside a qualifying distribution in the amount of $182,714 to support a charitable project targeted combatting food waste within the Scholars of Sustenance organization. The project is described as follows:The US based non-profit Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) is primarily a hunger-relief and scholarship assistance organization. It was created to facilitate the recycling of wasted hospitality food in underdeveloped areas and the funding of scholarships for impoverished students. The organization will initiate its operations in South-East Asia by assisting hotels and restaurants with improving efficiencies and reducing waste. Excess food will be salvaged and redistributed through SOS-coordinated transport. The secured meals are donated to neighboring poor villages in parallel with the school system. This will enable selected students to assist with the local food distribution in exchange for points earned toward university scholarships via an SOS-funded ambassador program. This opportunity will also be offered to staff of participating food service donation venues on behalf of their children. This structure will teach responsibility and self-sustainability while encouraging children and their families to see the value from staying in school and getting a basic education. The goal of the organization is twofold: engagement of the food service industry of impoverished nations in the fight against hunger and providing opportunity for greater education of disadvantaged schoolchildren. In the long term, SOS aims to become a self-reliant organization in multiple countries, extending its charitable efforts beyond the redistribution of food.The amounts set aside will be paid to fund this project within 60 months of the date of the set-aside, which ends on December 31, 2016.
