Explanation
FORM 990, PART III, LINE 1
CANTABILE YOUTH SINGERS OFFERS CHILDREN AND TEENS COMPREHENSIVE CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES FROM AGE 4-18. WE ENGAGE THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS, ENCOURAGING A LIFETIME APPRECIATION OF THE ARTS AND THE WORLDWIDE DIVERSITY OF CULTURES AND LANGUAGES. CANTABILE IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHILDREN TO EXPLORE THEIR LOVE OF MUSIC AND TO PARTICIPATE IN CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCE FROM A VERY EARLY AGE. OUR CHOIR PROGRAMS START WITH OUR PREPARATORY DIVISION AND OFFER KODALY AND ORFF BASED MUSICAL EXPLORATION AND TRAINING STARTING WITH PRE-KINDERGARTEN AGED CHILDREN AND PROGRESSING UP THROUGH SENIORS IN HIGH SCHOOL. THIS VISION OF TEACHING CHILDREN THOUGH THEIR ENTIRE SCHOOL CAREERS CAME FROM OUR FOUNDER SIGNE BOYER'S OBSERVATION THAT CHILDREN'S MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS WERE BEING CUT DRASTICALLY. HER PASSION FOR TEACHING MUSIC AND HER EMPHASIS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF CHORAL SINGING AS AN ACT OF LEARNING TO PARTICIPATE IN SOMETHING GREATER THAN ONESELF TO CREATE BEAUTY AND SHARE IT WITH THE WORLD DROVE HER TO START THE CHOIR. TODAY THERE ARE VERY FEW PUBLIC SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN TO BE TAUGHT MUSIC IN THE CLASSROOM. CANTABILE FILLS THIS NICHE AND PROVIDES MANY PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS THROUGHOUT THEIR K-12 SCHOOL EXPERIENCE. OUR HANDS ON APPROACH TO TEACHING CHILDREN SINGING, MUSIC THEORY AND MUSICIANSHIP HELPS THEM DEVELOP NOT ONLY THEIR VOICES BUT ALSO THEIR APPRECIATION OF PERFORMANCE, VISUAL ART, LANGUAGES AND TRAVEL. THIS INSPIRES A LIFETIME OF PARTICIPATION IN THE ARTS THAT BENEFITS NOT ONLY THE CHILD BUT ALSO SOCIETY BECAUSE THESE CHILDREN BECOME ADULTS THAT SUPPORT THE ARTS AND FOSTER A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AROUND ART AND PERFORMANCE.
