ADDITIONALLY, SIX COLLEGE INTERNS WERE PLACED AND TRAINED IN DEVELOPMENT/ADMIN, MENTORING AND EDUCATION, AND THE GALLERY AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS. 100% OF ADVANCEDSTUDIES PARTICIPANTS WENT ON TO COLLEGE AND, IN FACT, RECEIVED FULL SCHOLARSHIPS TO INSTITUTES OF HIGHER LEARNING (CAL ARTS, THE CHICAGO ART INSTITUTE, NYU TISCH); WERE NATIONAL YOUNG ARTS AWARD FINALISTS; HAD FILMS SELECTED FOR THE AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL AND THE TOWER OF YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL; AND HAD WORK PUBLISHED IN THE NEW YORK TIMES. OUR LONG-TIME ARTPARTERS PROGRAM PROVIDED A WORKSHOP SERIES AT OLYMPIC CONTINUATION HIGH SCHOOL, A SCHOOL OF "LAST RESORT" IN SANTA MONICA; THE MAR VISTA FAMILY CENTER, SERVING THE HIGHLY IMPOVERISHED COMMUNITY IN AND SURROUNDING MAR VISTA GARDENS; AND THE BROTHERHOOD CRUSADE IN SOUTH LOS ANGELES, WHOSE MANDATE IS TO "EMPOWER AND UPLIFT OUR COMMUNITY BOTH ECONOMICALLY AND SOCIALLY." (3) WE TRAVELED TO SENEGAL TO TRAIN STAFF OF THE NGO TOSTAN IN PARTICIPANT-PRODUCED VIDEO STORYTELLING. TOSTAN IS BASED IN SENEGAL, AND WORKS THROUGHOUT WEST AFRICA TO END THE PRACTICE OF FEMALE GENITAL CUTTING, AND TO SUPPORT GIRLS' EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT. THE THREE VIDEOS THAT WERE A PRODUCT OF THIS TRAINING PROGRAM WERE USED BY TOSTAN TO PROMOTE THEIR WORK INTERNATIONALLY, TO SHOW THEIR APPROACH TO OTHER NGOS IN WEST AFRICAN, AND AS A DEPARTURE FOR COMMUNITY DISCUSSION.

WE TAUGHT TEENS IN SOUTH KERN HOW TO USE PHOTOGRAPHY AND AUDIO TO CREATE MULTIMEDIA STORIES ABOUT TEEN PREGNANCY AND TRAINED THEM AS YOUTH LEADERS TO IMPLEMENT A NEWLY DESIGNED CURRICULUM GUIDE ON PREGNANCY PREVENTION THAT USES THEIR MEDIA AS A CENTERPIECE. THIS CURRICULUM GUIDE, ALONG WITH A DVD OF THE WORK, WAS DISTRIBUTED TO THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA. WE ALSO WORKED WITH TEENS IN MERCED COUNTY, TEACHING CITIZEN JOURNALISM USING PHOTOGRAPHY, WRITING, AND AUDIO. THEIR WORK FOCUSED ON HOMELESSNESS, INCLUDING YOUTH AND FAMILY POVERTY AND HOMELESSNESS; MULTIGENERATIONAL SUBSTANCE ABUSE; AND COMMUNITY PROVIDE. THEY WERE TRAINED AS YOUTH LEADERS TO USE THEIR STORIES TO ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE, AND TO EDUCATE AND INFORM.
