During 2013, the City of Baltimore elected not to renew its contract with the Organization for the operation of the City's homeless shelter. This contract expired effective June 30, 2013. In response to the expiration of this contract, the Organization downsized the workforce that supported this program.

BASED ON A TIP FROM THE FBI IN 2014, JHR BECAME AWARE OF A SIGNIFICANT DIVERSION OF THE ORGANIZATION'S ASSETS. A FORENSIC ACCOUNTANT WAS HIRED TO INVESTIGATE AND THEIR REPORT FOUND THAT A TOTAL OF $161,750 IN ASSETS WERE DIVERTED BY THE FORMER DIRECTOR OF FINANCE. OF THIS TOTAL, $149,520 IS RELATED TO THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2013. THE FBI IS FINALIZING THEIR INVESTIGATION AND CRIMINAL PROSECUTION IS BELIEVED TO BE IMMINENT. THE ORGANIZATION'S INSURANCE CARRIER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED AND JHR EXPECTS TO RECOVER THE MAJORITY OF THE DIVERTED ASSETS. THE ORGANIZATION HAS HIRED AN OUTSIDE CONSULTANT TO EXAMINE INTERNAL CONTROLS AND MAKE SUGGESTIONS TO ELIMINATE THE LIKELIHOOD OF SUCH DIVERSIONS OCCURRING IN THE FUTURE.
