Explanation
Form 990, Part III, Line 4a - Program Description:
The ministry of KSBJ has been impacting lives for Jesus Christ since 1981. KSBJ's mission is to be the Voice of Hope Connecting People to God, and we accomplish that mission through our on-air broadcasting, our mentoring program, our community outreach, and our prayer initiatives. Because we are listener-supported, we are able to concentrate on creating the kind of radio that ministers to and encourages our listeners. Our programming is designed to fill the airwaves (both traditional and digital) with messages of the faith, hope, and love we have in Jesus Christ. KSBJ's core values reflect not only who we are and how we operate internally, but they also reflect the true heart of the ministry. KSBJ Core Values: - We're Passionate for Christ... We are a people of prayer, faithfully devoted to being led by Christ. He is our passion and the source of our purpose. We will continually seek to follow (be filled by) Him and demonstrate His character in all we do. - We Love People... We value authentic relationships and choose to see people through Jesus' eyes, embracing their uniqueness, loving them the way God loves us. - We Serve Others...It's our joy to generously serve and meet needs in the name of Jesus. Using our gifts, talents and resources with integrity we seek to minister to the body of Christ, our community and the world. - Together We're Better...We are a spiritual family on a journey to impact lives for Christ. We depend on one another understanding that where one is weak the other is strong, and that's okay, because "God arranges parts of the body - every one of them - just as He wants them to be". Our volunteers, board of directors (also volunteers), and staff hold each other to high standards and live out our core values daily. It takes an army of volunteers to support the ministry of KSBJ. We utilized approximately 2,670 volunteers giving over 11,100 hours of their time in various roles throughout the year. KSBJ Broadcasting: KSBJ broadcasting is taking the message of hope found in a relationship with Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. We broadcast to an average audience of over 800,000 listeners on a weekly basis in Houston and the surrounding gulf coast region. Our web streaming (www.ksbj.org and www.ngenradio.com) and mobile apps provide a way for people to listen anywhere in the world on any device with internet access. We receive numerous calls, emails, social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), etc. from all over the world with people sharing how much encouragement and hope the ministry is giving them. Here are just a couple of examples of the emails we receive: "When I started listening to KSBJ, my life was messy. Just a few months ago, my life really fell apart. My husband got hurt at work, we were denied unemployment, he was fired from his job and I had to go to work to keep things together. I had been out of the job market for almost 9 years. But even with all the messiness of our life, KSBJ has made such a difference. The music keeps me positive. We love saying the Lord's prayer during Pray Down at High Noon. The Prayer boards have been wonderful also. I got so much love and prayers when I would post and it was encouraging to hear other peoples praises. I don't know what I would have done if I had not heard KSBJ that day back in January. I am 1400 miles from friends and family and it has been a hard time getting use to Texas and Houston. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. It is like a good friend every time that I turn on the radio. God bless and hope to hear KSBJ for many years to come." "I support NGEN radio because of the way you guys do ministry. I think it's really cool that you guys can get out there on the radio and play crazy awesome Christian music and share the gospel and help Christians grow through your content. You are all about spreading God's word and being a positive influence on people." - John The messages of hope that go out on the airwaves of KSBJ and NGEN are shining a light in the impossible to reach places and in the hearts of the hurting. Some of the on-air messaging this past year included: - Pray. Share. Serve. - We invited our listeners to join us on the journey to transform Houston by sharing opportunities to pray, share and serve the community with us! - Easter: Messages leading up to and during Holy Week were designed to educate our listeners on the elements of the Easter story. We focused on sharing the Gospel through produced interviews with Max Lucado. We took our listeners on a journey through the Holy Week timeline via text updates to help our listeners better understand the series of events of the final week of Christ's earthly life. - NGEN's Music Matters - We believe in the power of music. We believe that God uses songs to inspire and encourage us and we took some time to ask our listeners to share their stories about how the music on NGEN has impacted their lives. Their stories were amazing and we got to share those on the air and celebrate the impact God is making through NGEN. KSBJ Education/Mentoring: Educational and mentoring programs are an integral part of KSBJ's ministry. KSBJ provides Biblically based educational programming designed to educate, train, encourage, and develop our listeners in areas of financial stewardship, spiritual growth and maturity, strengthening marriage and family relationships, health and wellness, issues impacting Christian worldviews, etc. The KSBJ bimonthly newsletter serves as an educational outreach to over 72,000 recipients. The educational content on the KSBJ and NGEN websites and numerous social media channels have well over 4,000,000 views/hits annually. The KSBJ mentoring program walked along side of several domestic and international radio ministries sharing the knowledge we have gained in over 30 years of broadcasting experience. Our domestic mentoring relationships include stations in Texas, New York, Washington DC and Arkansas. Our international mentoring relationships include ministries in Slovakia, Australia, South Africa, South Sudan, Mali, Tanzania, and Lithuania. You can learn more about the KSBJ Mentoring program at: http://www.ksbj.org/about/pages/mentoring KSBJ Community Outreach: KSBJ is committed to giving back to the community and building unity in the body of Christ through our community outreach efforts. As the Voice of Hope, KSBJ raises awareness, rallies support, and connects people with local ministries and charitable organizations. Here are a few highlights from the past year: - Habitat for Humanity Faith Build- KSBJ helped build 37 affordable houses in Houston by promoting the volunteer opportunity with Habitat for Humanity to our listeners. - Giving Tree- This year we partnered with the Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries to serve families throughout Houston. With the help of our listeners, we were able to meet 2,083 needs for 387 families in the Greater Houston Area. - Operation Christmas Child - NGEN asked our listeners to pack shoe boxes for needy children around the world. NGEN was then selected to send a representative to Ecuador to help hand deliver hundreds of boxes to needy children. Bryan Harada, NGEN's Local Promotions Manager, returned to Houston forever changed. His trip was shared with Houston through a weekend story on Fox26. KSBJ Prayer Initiatives: At KSBJ, we believe that God listens. We have many opportunities and resources for you to be prayed for and for you to pray for others. It is our desire to cultivate an authentic community of Christ followers who are passionate about prayer and who want to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ. Over the past year, KSBJ has received over 36,000 prayer requests through our various prayer channels and rejoiced for over 670 people who dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ this year. In September 2013, when tragedy took place at Spring High School, KSBJ was there to help them on the road to recovery. Reyna Reyna was granted favor and allowed to pray with the students when other "media" was not allowed near the students. Our partnership with Harris County Sheriff's Office has been tremendous. Our new numbers indicate we've ministered to over 26,400 people. We've seen the compassionate hand of God touching families who have loved ones incarcerated. Through PrayerWorks our listeners are praying for people around the globe whom they may never meet this side of heaven, yet the prayers and praises continue daily. Each month, over 500 prayers are submitted with an average of 5,400 people indicating they will be praying for them. KSBJ Prayer Connections: You can find out more about KSBJ's Prayer Connections at: www.ksbj.org/prayer-growth/ If you want to know more about having a relationship with Jesus Christ, please call us at 281-446-5725 or toll free at 1-800-446-5725.
