Explanation
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11a
A board meeting is held immediately after the completion of the Form 990. The CPA preparer attends the meeting to review the Form 990 with the officers and directors, and to answer questions.
Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19
The organization makes its governing documents and conflict of interest policy available to the public through the publishing of its annual report and the Trustees Handbook, and is available on request.
Form 990, Part XI, Line 5
Net unrealized gain of 33,312 - net unrealized gain of 12,602 was earned on the schools Charles Schwab investment account, and a net unrealized gain of 20,710 was earned on the schools 854 shares of Wellpoint, Inc. stock. A list of the investments is provided in Part X, line 11.
Form 990, Part XI, Line 8
Prior period adjustment of 53,900 - each year the Montessoria School bills its tuition in advance for the upcoming school year and the billings are recorded as deferred income. As the school year progresses the deferred income is reclassed to income as it is earned throughout the school year. An internal analysis of deferred revenue was done for the year end 7/31/14 and a difference of 53,900 was found. The 53,900 difference is being shown as a prior period adjustment, as it relates to prior years income and tuition discounts that were not reconciled in prior years.
Form 990, Part XI, Line 8
Prior period adjustment of 73,068 - During the summer of 2014 the head of the school, Dorothy Knox, found a Trigon Heathcare, Inc. stock certificate while she was going through old files that were to be shredded. The stock shares were issued in 1997 as part of Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shields conversion from a mutual insurance company to a stock insurance company. Trigon Heathcare, Inc. was later acquired by Wellpoint, Inc. and as of July 31, 2013 prior year, the school owned 854 shares of Wellpoint, Inc. stock valued at 85.56 per share or 73,068. Although the stock basis of the 854 shares is zero, the fair market value will be carried on the balance sheet at fair market value, and the changes in value will be subsequently adjusted each year through the net unrealized gain and losses account.
