OUR VISION: LESLIE SCIENCE & NATURE CENTER ENABLES INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN TO ESTABLISH LIFELONG CONNECTIONS WITH THE NATURAL WORLD AND ENCOURAGES EFFORTS TO SUPPORT AND PROTECT IT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. THE LESLIE SCIENCE & NATURE CENTER PROVIDES IMPORTANT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO OVER 65,000 CHILDREN, ADULTS, AND FAMILY MEMBERS ANNUALLY, SERVING GREATER SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN. FOR YOUTH, WE OFFER EDUCATIONAL SCHOOL PROGRAMMING, SEASONAL DAY CAMPS, PRE-K PROGRAMS, AND BADGE-SPECIFIC PROGRAMS FOR SCOUTS. OUR PUBLIC PROGRAMMING THAT IS DIRECTED TOWARDS ALL AGES INCLUDES PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON ALL ASPECTS OF NATURE STEWARDSHIP AND EDUCATION. PROGRAMS ARE PRESENTED BOTH ON OUR GROUNDS AND OFFSITE IN SCHOOLS, ASSISTED LIVING CENTERS, HOSPITALS, CHURCHES, COMMUNITY CENTERS, MUSEUMS, CAMPS, AND MORE.

LSNC RECEIVED 42,434 (ESTIMATED VALUE) OF FACILITY USE FISCAL YEAR 2013/2014 FACILITIES WERE DONATED BY CITY OF ANN ARBOR (GOVERNMENT AGENCY) LSNC WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR PROGRAMS WITHOUT THIS DONATION. DUE TO IRS RULES THE VALUE OF THESE FACILITIES ARE NOT REFLECTED ON THE RETURN; THESE FACILITIES MEET THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR REPORTING UNDER GENERALLY ACCEPTED ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES (GAAP).

ANIMAL PROGRAMS ARE POPULAR WITH SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, CHURCH GROUPS AND ALSO ENGAGE OVER DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS TO OVER 27 STATES LAST YEAR. 10,000 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN PROGRAMS SUCH AS WALKING DOWN A FOOD CHAIN AND WHAT DOES THAT ROACH NEED? AS WELL AS CUSTOM PROGRAMMING. ANYONE IN THE PUBLIC CAN COME VIEW AND LEARN ABOUT OUR RESIDENT ANIMALS FOR FREE, IN OUR CRITTER HOUSE, ON SUNDAYS FOR SELECT PUBLIC HOURS. SCOUT PROGRAMS: 588 SCOUTS AND 318 ADULTS ATTENDED BADGE RELATED PROGRAMS THAT ARE OFFERED FOR SCOUTS DURING THE LAST FISCAL YEAR. PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, BOTH AT OUR FACILITY AND OFF SITE, INCLUDING OVERNIGHT OPPORTUNITIES AT LSNC. PROGRAMS RANGE FROM INVESTIGATING ENERGY TO EXPLORING THE ANIMALS AND BUGS AT OUR SITE TO CONSERVATION, AMONG OTHERS. PUBLIC PROGRAMS: LSNC HOSTS A WIDE VARIETY OF PUBLIC PROGRAMS AND FESTIVALS DURING THE YEAR, INCLUDING ANIMAL HAUNTS, EGG HUNT, EARTH DAY, OWL PROWL, AND A HOST OF PROGRAMS SPECIFICALLY FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. OVER 15,750 PARTICIPANTS JOINED US FOR THE YEAR IN THESE PROGRAMS.
