Briefly describe the organization’s mission: Founded in 1982, the South Dakota Soybean Association (SDSA) is a grassroots farmer-led member organization whose purpose is to develop and implement the policies and objectives of our members for their benefit and profitability, as well as, for the entire industry.

During the year ending June 30, 2014, the South Dakota Soybean Association maintained its membership with communication and educational programs: 1) A trade show, AgOutlook, which included 1,000 producers from the Tri-State area. The one day event included 85 vendor booths, and informational speakers. Information provided pertained to agricultural marketing and economic trends. 2) A golf/networking event which included 160 area producers and sales representatives. Educational displays were used to provide information regarding soybeans. 3)The Soybean Leader magazine is a publication which SDSA distributes to the South Dakota soybean producers. Approximately 20,000 copies of the publication were sent out every other month, for a total of 6 times during the year. Articles included new uses for soybeans, trends, research, disease, and other information regarding soybeans. Additionally, SDSA continued working to research and develop ways to improve the marketing of soybean products.

Part X, Line 2: The Association is organized as a South Dakota nonprofit corporation and has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in Section 501(c)(5). The Association is annually required to file a Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax (Form 990) with the IRS. In addition, the Association is subject to income tax on net income that is derived from business activities that are unrelated to their exempt purposes. The Association files an Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return (Form 990-T) with the IRS to report its unrelated business taxable income. The Association believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken affecting its annual filing requirements, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements. The entities would recognize future accrued interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits and liabilities in income tax expense if such interest and penalties are incurred. The Association Form 990-T is no longer subject to tax examination for years beginning before 2010.

Form 990, Part VII Jeremy Freking, Executive Director, is compensated through South Dakota Soybean Association. However, the majority of his time is spent working for Soybean Research & Promotion Council. The Council reimburses the Association for Jeremy's salary and benefit expense. The compensation and benefits reported on the Association return represent the Association's portion of Jeremy's total compensation and benefits.
