WE ALSO OFFER SPLASH, A 3 TO 4-DAY SCHOLARSHIP BASED AQUATIC SAFETY PROGRAM FOR LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SECOND-GRADE STUDENTS TO TEACH PROPER SAFETY TOOLS WHEN IN AND AROUND WATER AS WELL AS SOME BASIC SWIM SKILLS. CARDIAC PROGRAMS - AIMS TO REDUCE THE RISK FACTORS OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE BY OFFERING ONE-ON-ONE COACHING FOR REFERRED PARTICIPANTS. PROGRAMS INCLUDE SPECIFIC WORKOUT PLANS AND TEMPLATES TO MATCH THE NEEDS OF THE MEMBER. FIT AFTER 50 - PROVIDES ADULTS OVER AGE 50 A SUPPORT SYSTEM OF HEALTH, PREVENTION, FITNESS AND SOCIAL INTERACTION. INCLUDES NUMEROUS HEALTHY LIVING SEMINARS, HEALTH SCREENINGS, VACCINATIONS, LECTURES, AND FUN NIGHTS HOSTED AT OUR CENTERS FOCUSING ON THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING FOR THE 50+ POPULATION. LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA - A FREE 12-WEEK, EVIDENCE-BASED, SMALL GROUP PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR ADULT CANCER SURVIVORS WHO HAVE BECOME DECONDITIONED OR CHRONICALLY FATIGUED FROM THEIR TREATMENT, DISEASE OR CONDITION. MOVING FOR BETTER BALANCE - A 12-WEEK, 24-SESSION, EVIDENCE-BASED, FALLS PREVENTION PROGRAM, WHICH USES THE PRINCIPLES AND MOVEMENTS OF TAI CHI TO HELP OLDER ADULTS IMPROVE THEIR BALANCE AND INCREASE THEIR CONFIDENCE IN DOING EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES. TAKING CONTROL OF TYPE 2 - A GRANT FUNDED ONE-YEAR PROGRAM DESIGNED TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF INDIVIDUALS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES AND LESSEN THEIR RISK OF DEVELOPING COMPLICATIONS. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO INCREASE AWARENESS AND EDUCATION OF TYPE 2 DIABETES, INCREASE PARTICIPANT EXERCISE LEVELS TO 150 MINUTES PER WEEK, AND DECREASE PARTICIPANT'S HGA1C LEVELS (AVERAGE OF BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS USED TO DIAGNOSE TYPE 2 DIABETES). DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM - A YEAR-LONG, COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAM FOR OVERWEIGHT ADULTS AT RISK OF DEVELOPING TYPE 2 DIABETES. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT WHERE PARTICIPANTS WORK TOGETHER IN A SMALL GROUP TO LEARN ABOUT HEALTHIER EATING AND INCREASING THEIR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN ORDER TO REDUCE THEIR RISK FOR DEVELOPING TYPE 2 DIABETES. CHILDHOOD OBESITY PREVENTION PROGRAM - A GRANT FUNDED PROGRAM CONDUCTED OUT OF HENDERSONVILLE AND BRUCE DRYSDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN HENDERSON COUNTY. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT TO HELP REDUCE CHILDHOOD OBESITY THROUGH A CLINICALLY PROVEN SCHOOL-DAY FITNESS AND EDUCATION PROGRAM GEARED TOWARD ELEMENTARY-AGE CHILDREN DURING RECESS TWICE A WEEK FOR A 12-WEEK SESSION. - COMMUNITY HEALTHY LIVING FOOD PROGRAMS - THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS, THE ORGANIZATION DISTRIBUTES FOOD AND OTHER FREE RESOURCES TO FAMILIES IN NEED. THE HEALTHY LIVING MOBILE KITCHEN SERVES MEALS TO CHILDREN IN UNDER-SERVED AREAS, DISTRIBUTE FRESH PRODUCE TO FAMILIES, AND OFFER NUTRITION EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES. SINCE ITS LAUNCH OVER 60,000 POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE AND BREAD HAS BEEN SERVED TO OVER 500 FAMILIES IN NEED. THE HEALTHY LIVING MOBILE MARKET (HLMM) IS A NEWLY RENOVATED BOX TRUCK THAT IS EQUIPPED WITH COOLERS AND HEAT BLANKETS TO HOLD FOOD, PALLETS FOR FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS, AND TABLES FOR NUTRITION EDUCATION. SINCE ITS LAUNCH IN OCTOBER 2014, THE HLMM HAS EXPANDED OUR REACH FOR FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS, NUTRITION EDUCATION, AND ENROLLMENT IN FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS TO LOW- INCOME FAMILIES. ERWIN, A.C. REYNOLDS, AND CHARLES D. OWEN MIDDLE SCHOOLS WITHIN THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY SCHOOL (BCS) SYSTEM. THE PROGRAM ALSO WORKS TO IMPROVE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT STUDENT DEVELOPMENT THROUGH DAILY ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES IN THE ARTS, SERVICE-LEARNING, HEALTH/WELLNESS, SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM), AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. LEADERS CLUB - A YOUTH PROGRAM THAT DEVELOPS YOUNG LEADERS THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM, ADVOCACY AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. TEENS (AGES 12-18) RECEIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SERVICE TO OTHERS. PROJECT RISE - OFFERS FREE AFTERSCHOOL ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO DISADVANTAGED YOUTH (GRADES 4-6) IN THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, WHO STRUGGLE IN SCHOOL DUE TO LIMITED LANGUAGE ABILITIES, SOCIOECONOMIC CHALLENGES, LACK OF CARETAKER ATTENTION, OR OTHER BARRIERS. TEEN AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS - PROVIDES FREE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMMING TO DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS (AGES 12-15) IN MCDOWELL COUNTY. THE PROGRAM TACKLES MANY MULTIFACETED EFFECTS OF GENERATIONAL POVERTY BY ENCOURAGING ACADEMIC ATTAINMENT AND PRO-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR, AS WELL AS FOSTERING GOOD NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL EXERCISE HABITS. - YOUTH SPORTS YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS HONOR THE Y CORE VALUES OF CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, AND RESPONSIBILITY. WE STRIVE TO PROVIDE A QUALITY EXPERIENCE FOR PLAYERS, COACHES, AND FAMILIES, AND WE PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF EACH ATHLETE TO REACH THEIR HIGHEST POTENTIAL THROUGH SKILL REFINEMENT, TEAMWORK, AND SPORTSMANSHIP. YOUTH SPORTS INCLUDE BASKETBALL, T-BALL, SOCCER, FIELD HOCKEY, AND LACROSSE. WOODFIN RECESS - A FREE CHILDHOOD OBESITY PREVENTION PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FUN, STRUCTURED RECESS AND EDUCATES YOUTH ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF NUTRITION AND EXERCISE. - CAMPS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN SUMMER DAY CAMP - CAMPS TO FIT THE NEEDS OF FAMILIES THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY. WITH KIDDIE CAMP FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS, DISCOVERY AND EXPLORER CAMP FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-AGE CAMPERS, ADVENTURE CAMP FOR OLDER ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL-AGED CAMPERS, AND A COUNSELOR IN TRAINING PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. SUMMER DISCOVERY - IS A FREE SEVEN-WEEK SPECIALIZED SUMMER LEARNING LOSS PREVENTION PROGRAM TARGETING ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH FROM ENKA, CLYDE A. ERWIN, A.C. REYNOLDS, AND CHARLES D. OWEN MIDDLE SCHOOLS, YET OPEN TO ALL LOCAL MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS, WHO HAVE NO OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENRICHMENT LEARNING DURING SUMMER MONTHS.
