| General explanation attachment | Durango Film has celebrated the art of film with the community for more than 10 years. Our goal is to bring the community together to laugh, cry, reflect, rejoice, learn something new and have fun in the experience. Filmmakers making the journey to Durango tell us how much they appreciate Durango audiences, who go out of the way to make them feel welcome. We applaud the courage and independent spirit of the filmmaker and our mission, as always, is to connect our community of film lovers with the art and passion of the filmmaker. We are currently working on presenting our 11th Annual Festival taking place March 2 6, 2016. The 2015 festival concentrated on ways to bring the community together in more ways than just film, industry panels, and parties. Our first Craft Beer & Culinary Crawl was created to showcase art in other forms, taking place in various restaurants and art galleries, thus driving attendees to explore more of downtown Durango and its offerings. This proved to be a highly popular event that added to the festival experience. The restaurants, brewers and galleries that participated in the event provided very positive feedback. The 2015 festival filled approximately 5,700 seats in films, panels, and the Reel Learning program. A record 49 filmmakers and industry personnel attended the 2015 festival to showcase their films and participate in panel discussions. Four filmmaker and industry Panels took place Saturday and Sunday during the festival. Film students from Santa Fe University of Art & Design participated in the Students of the Screen panel. Other panel topics included talent casting, filmmaking challenges and screenplay writing. The festival added a fourth venue (screen) at the Durango Stadium 9 Theatre located approximately 2 miles south of downtown Durango. This is the first year to expand the festival beyond the downtown area and a small percentage (16%) made it out to the Durango Stadium 9 for the 10 programs presented there. A record 980 students and teachers participated in the Reel Learning program reaching students in Ignacio schools, Durango schools and students attending Animas High School. We seek to improve the students capacity to judge media messages using highly creative films that are full of new ideas and viewpoints that lend themselves to engaging and intriguing discussion. Two filmmakers presented their films and conducted Q&A sessions with students. Durango Film donated film-related media literacy materials to the libraries of participating schools. Please see the following quotes from some of our 2015 Filmmakers:I can not emphasize enough just how incredible this film festival has been. It was an absolute honor to be a part of this amazing event. From the staff of the festival to the to the kind sponsors, this festival holds a dear place in our hearts. Thank you for everything! I can honestly say Howard [Finster] would be honored to have his film shown in such an amazing town and festival! On behalf of everyone at Paradise Garden, thank you! Jeremy Miller, Paradise Garden, 2015 Filmmaker This is the best festival Ive ever been a part of, and that Ive ever experienced. Everything was very professional and at the same time very personal. I couldnt believe how friendly and accommodating everyone was. This is a wonderful festival in a wonderful town. I need to make a new film every year to submit, and hopefully have an excuse to come here. Thanks to everyone. Sean Stueve, Missed Prayers, 2015 Filmmaker I was just in the 2015 festival and we won Best Short Audience Award for Intersection. Even before that, it was easily the best festival Ive attended; great city, great venues, great local turnout (three sold-out screenings)! We just played a festival in Los Angeles and there was almost zero turnout to the block of films. Durango will ALWAYS be on my submission list from now on.
