WESTERN STARK SHELTER OFFERS FREE HOUSING ON AN EMERGENCY 24-HOUR BASIS TO VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THEIR CHILDREN. SERVICES ARE PROVIDED IN A TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE ENVIRONMENT. CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES, INCLUDING SAFETY PLANNING AND LINKAGE TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES, ARE AVAILABLE AND THE SHELTER PROVIDES FOOD, CLOTHING, AND LIMITED TRANSPORTATION SERVICES TO RESIDENTS. SIX ROOMS WITH PRIVATE BATHS AND A TOTAL OF 19 BEDS WERE AVAILABLE THIS YEAR. 115 RESIDENTS RECEIVED 4,821 NIGHTS OF SHELTER. COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROVIDES SPEAKERS FOR AREA ORGANIZATIONS AND TRAINING FOR PROFESSIONALS IN THE MEDICAL, LAW ENFORCEMENT, EDUCATION, AND SOCIAL SERVICES FIELDS, AS WELL AS PREVENTION EDUCATION IN THE SCHOOLS. THE DATING VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM OFFERS PROGRAMMING IN THE SCHOOLS FOR TEENS AND YOUTH ABOUT HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AND HOW TO RECOGNIZE ABUSE. THE LIFESKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM PROVIDES EVIDENCE-BASED SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAMMING IN THE SCHOOLS. SAFE DATES, AN ADOLESCENT DATING ABUSE PREVENTION CURRICULUM , WAS DESIGNATED AS A MODEL PROGRAM BY SAMHSA. DVPI REACHED 214 STUDENTS WITH SAFE DATES THIS YEAR, 335 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE DATING VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM, AND 895 IN LIFESKILLS. THE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM RELEASES FAMILIES FROM HOUSING CONCERNS, GIVING ADEQUATE TIME TO REBUILD LIVES, TRANSITION INTO PERMANENT HOUSING, AND INTEGRATE INTO A COMMUNITY. EIGHT TO TEN ADULT CLIENTS, ALONG WITH THEIR CHILDREN, CAN BE SUPPORTED IN HOUSING OF THEIR CHOICE FOR A PERIOD OF SIX MONTHS TO TWO YEARS, ALLOWING VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR SEXUAL ABUSE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAL AND MOVE TOWARDS SELF-SUFFICIENCY. SUPPORT INCLUDES RENT AND UTILITY PAYMENTS ALONG WITH CASE MANAGEMENT DURING THE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PERIOD. 16 ADULTS AND 12 CHILDREN WERE SUPPORTED THIS FISCAL YEAR, WITH A TOTAL OF 94 MONTHS OF RENT SUBSIDIZED.
