PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY IN BEIJING, THE 60-IMAGE EXHIBITION ILLUSTRATES THE CHANGING CULTURAL LANDSCAPE OF MINNESOTA AND THE UNITED STATES, AND THE POSSIBILITIES AND POSITIVE EVERYDAY REALITIES OF AMERICAN DIVERSITY. SINCE SUMMER 2011, THE EXHIBITION HAS BEEN PRESENTED IN ARTS, CULTURAL, AND EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN BEIJING, XI'AN, DALIAN, WUHAN, GUANGZHOU, HANGZHOU, SHANGHAI, HARBIN, CHENGDU, GUIYANG, CHONGQING, AND NANCHANG. THE RESULTING EXHIBITION, THE SUM OF MANY PARTS: 25 QUILTMAKERS FROM 21ST-CENTURY AMERICA, SHOWCASES THE WORK OF A CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN ARTIST FROM EACH STATE IN ARTS MIDWEST'S AND SOUTH ARTS' REGIONS, AS WELL AS THE STATE OF HAWAII. THESE EXTRAORDINARY EXAMPLES OF AMERICA'S DIVERSE QUILTING TRADITIONS TOURED TO SIX CITIES ACROSS CHINA: SHANGHAI, KUNMING, NANNING, DALIAN, WUHAN, AND BEIJING. AFTER RETURNING TO THE UNITED STATES, THE FULL EXHIBITION WAS ALSO PRESENTED IN DES MOINES, IOWA. THE EXHIBITION OFFERED CHINESE AUDIENCES MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT WITH THE AMERICAN ARTISTS AND THEIR WORKS, INCLUDING PRESENTATIONS AND LECTURES BY THE FEATURED QUILTERS AND SYMPOSIA WITH TEXTILE EXPERTS. THE SUM OF MANY PARTS: 25 QUILTMAKERS IN 21ST-CENTURY AMERICA, IS A PROGRAM CONCEIVED AND SPONSORED BY THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY-BEIJING.
