Explanation
Racial Nondiscrimination Policy
The New Interdisciplinary School (NIS) is a non-profit, innovative early childhood learning center that respects the unique needs of all children and their families. NIS does not solicit for students or have a specific registration period. We accept children all year round into one of our programs based solely on open availability. Our classroom designs are specific to our state approvals from the New York State Education Department and are regulated by both SED and the Office of Children Family Services. Our programs are approved to serve a specific number of children who will benefit the most from the structure and ratio makeup of the class. The children we serve are placed into programs based on their Individual Education Plan (IEP) which is set by the school district the child lives in. Parents are given placement locations from the district and at that point may request placement at NIS. The District will then contact NIS to see if a specific classroom program has availability. If there is an opening in the requested program, we will accept the child's enrollment. We do not turn any child we have availability for away. No admission decisions are ever made based upon race, ethnicity, disability or socioeconomic status. We strongly believe that each child, regardless of disability, ethnic background, or socioeconomic status has the right to develop to his or her full potential. Form 990, Schedule E, Line 6 Grants from Governmental Agencies The School receives governmental funding from the U.S. Department of Education VIA IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) Grants. Explanation
Form 990, part VI, line 11
process used to review form 990 The Form 990 was prepared by an independent accounting firm in conjunction with the organization's financial department. A copy of the draft form 990 was circulated to the full board of trustees in either paper or electronic form for discussion and comment. Each board member was provided ample opportunity to comment on the information contained in the 990 prior to its filing with the Internal Revenue Service.
Form 990, Part Vi, Line 12
The New Interdisciplinary School operates in conjunction with its related party, the Independent Group Home Living Program and utilizes many of the same policies and procedures. The conflict of interest policy and annual disclosure forms are distributed to all board members, officers and management staff. Each individual is required to sign and review the disclosure form and provide information about any relationships they may have with NIS or any related parties, other employees, and/or vendors that conduct business with NIS. All submissions are reviewed by Human Resources to determine if a conflict exists; when a conflict arises, the individuals affected are prohibited from participating in the decision-making process related to any transaction occurring with the conflicted organization.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 15A
The New Interdisciplinary School undertakes a thorough process to ensure that the compensation it pays to its top management official is commensurate with salaries paid by other schools in the same geographic area. Compensation is determined by a compensation committee of the Board of Directors (comprised of independent persons) and the decision making process is memorialized in committee minutes.
FORM 990, PART VI, LINE 19
The organization makes its Form 990 available to the public by retaining a copy at its place of business. The Form 990 is likewise published on the internet at www.guidestar.org. The organization's financial statements, governing documents and conflict of interest policy are not ordinarily made available to the public, but, if requested, will be provided at management's discretion.
Form 990, Part XI, Line 8
The New Interdisciplinary School reported a prior period adjustment within its audited financial statements to account for a minor reporting issue with accounts payable and accrued expenses totaling $80,697.
For Paperwork Reduction Act Notice, see the Instructions for Form 990 or 990-EZ.
