WE ARE COMMITTED TO PROVIDING PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT PROMOTE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF OUR MEMBERS AND OUR COMMUNITY. WE ARE FOUNDED ON CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES AND ARE GUIDED BY OUR CORE VALUES OF CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, AND RESPONSIBILITY. THE NEW CANAAN YMCA IS A MEMBERSHIP ASSOCIATION WITH ANNUAL AVERAGE OF 10,343 MEMBERS OF ALL AGES, ABILITIES, INCOMES, RACES, AND RELIGIONS. WITH THE ADDITIONAL SERVICES OF AN ESTIMATED 1,050 VOLUNTEERS IN POLICY MAKING, FUNDRAISING, SPECIAL EVENTS, AND PROGRAMS, THE YMCA IS DEDICATED TO PROMOTING COMMUNITY WELLNESS AND DEVELOPMENT, STRONG FAMILIES, YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, AND INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING. OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND NURTURING CHILDCARE ENVIRONMENT THAT HELPS OVER 150 CHILDREN DEVELOP POSITIVE BEHAVIOR, SELF-ESTEEM, AND LEADERSHIP QUALITIES. IN 2014, AN AVERAGE OF 10 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN A NEW VACATION CAMP CREATED FOR PRESCHOOL AGED STUDENTS. THE NEW CANAAN YMCA OFFERS SEVERAL SUMMER CAMP OPTIONS DESIGNED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY. CAMPERS LEARN CONSIDERATION AND COOPERATION WITH OTHERS, FAIRNESS, INDEPENDENCE AND LEADERSHIP. SUMMER CAMP HELPS TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE, SELF-ESTEEM AND A HEALTHY ATTITUDE. MORE THAN 50 TEENS PARTICIPATED IN THE Y'S LEADER-IN-TRAINING AND COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAMS. THE Y'S SPECIAL CARES CAMP PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH A VARIETY OF SPECIAL NEEDS (E.G., DOWN SYNDROME, AUTISM) ALLOWS THE CHILDREN TO BE INCLUDED IN A MAINSTREAM CAMP BY PROVIDING ONE-ON-ONE STAFF TO CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THEIR FAMILIES.YMCA AQUATIC PROGRAMS PROVIDE SPECIFIC SWIMMING AND WATER-SAFETY SKILLS WHILE PROMOTING GOOD HEALTH THROUGH REGULAR EXERCISE. IN 2014, NEARLY 750 CHILDREN (INCLUDING SPECIALIZED AQUATIC THERAPY FOR 27 CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS) LEARNED TO BECOME SAFER AND MORE CONFIDENT IN THE WATER THROUGH SWIM LESSONS. NEARLY 400 CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS PARTICIPATED IN THE YMCA'S THREE COMPETITIVE AQUATIC TEAMS: SWIMMING (206), DIVING (105) AND SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING (82) ALL TEAMS FOCUS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROPER MECHANICS, GOAL SETTING, LEADERSHIP AND TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS, SELF-ESTEEM AND THE YMCA FOUR CORE VALUES WITHIN THE REALM OF A SAFE AND MOTIVATING ENVIRONMENT. AS A RESULT, OUR ATHLETES ARE RESPONSIBLE STUDENT-ATHLETES AND ARE GREAT ROLE MODELS FOR OUR COMMUNITY. IN ADDITION TO ATHLETIC AND PERSONAL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, THE COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS PROVIDE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP FRIENDSHIPS AT THE YOUTH AND ADULT LEVEL BY BRINGING DIFFERENT FAMILIES TOGETHER IN SOCIAL OUTINGS AND VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE.DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, ONE SATURDAY NIGHT PER MONTH, THE YMCA IS OPEN EXCLUSIVELY TO YOUTH IN GRADES FIVE THROUGH EIGHT. THE PROGRAM IS OPEN TO ALL IN THE COMMUNITY, REGARDLESS OF MEMBERSHIP STATUS. WE EXPANDED OUR CLINICS TO INCLUDE KIDS IN GRADES 3-8 SO EVERYONE HAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GAME. THE NEW CANAAN YMCA CONTINUED ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION "GIRLS ON THE RUN INTERNATIONAL" AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM OFFERED TO GIRLS (AGE 8-13) THAT ENCOURAGES SELF-RESPECT AND HEALTHY LIVING. THE GIRLS ARE EMPOWERED WITH A GREATER SELF-AWARENESS, A SENSE OF ACHIEVEMENT, AND A FOUNDATION IN TEAM BUILDING TO HELP THEM BECOME STRONG, RESPECTFUL, AND SELF-CONFIDENT YOUNG WOMEN - ALL WHILE TRAINING TOGETHER TO WALK OR RUN IN A 5K EVENT AS A TEAM. THE Y-GUIDE AND PRINCESS PROGRAM FOR FATHER AND CHILD INSTILLS CLOSER FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS AND FOSTERS TOGETHERNESS THROUGH JOINT PROJECTS AND OUTINGS. 2014, AN AVERAGE OF 370 PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED EACH OF THE 3 WEEKEND OVERNIGHT OUTINGS. THE NEW CANAAN YMCA IS A COMMUNITY RESOURCE DEDICATED TO PROMOTING WELLNESS AMONG PEOPLE OF ALL AGES THROUGH GOOD HEALTH AND EXERCISE HABITS. OUR PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO HELP PEOPLE SET REALISTIC GOALS FOR SELF-IMPROVEMENT AND DISEASE PREVENTION THROUGH AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE, PROPER NUTRITION AND HEALTH EDUCATION. MEMBERS AGE 15 TO SENIOR MAY PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF CARDIOVASCULAR, STRENGTH TRAINING, MIND-BODY AND NUTRITION PROGRAMS. THE Y OFFERS OVER 120 DROP-IN HEALTH AND WELLNESS CLASSES PER WEEK. 109 CHILDREN, AGES 12-14, PARTICIPATED IN THE Y'S FAMILIES-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM. THE FIT PROGRAM ALLOWS CHILDREN TO WORKOUT WITH THEIR FAMILIES. IN 2014, 17 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN ONE OR MORE SESSIONS OF A CANCER SURVIVOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROGRAM CALLED LIVESTRONG. LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA IS A TWELVE-WEEK, SMALL GROUP PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR ADULT CANCER SURVIVORS. THE PROGRAM IS OFFERED AT NO CHARGE TO ANY CANCER SURVIVOR IN THE COMMUNITY. IN ADDITION TO THE PHYSICAL BENEFITS, THE PROGRAM PROVIDES PARTICIPANTS A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AND A FEELING OF COMMUNITY WITH THEIR FELLOW SURVIVORS, YMCA STAFF AND MEMBERS. TO MAINTAIN THE LEVEL OF QUALITY TO THE PROGRAM AND SERVICE TO OUR PARTICIPANTS, OUR INSTRUCTORS ARE REQUIRED TO STAY CURRENT ON THEIR TRAININGS AND ENCOURAGED TO GAIN AS MUCH KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE POPULATION THEY ARE WORKING WITH.

OUR MISSION IS TO ENSURE THAT ALL WHO SEEK OUR SERVICES HAVE ACCESS TO THEM AND WITH THE SUPPORT FROM THE Y'S ANNUAL CAMPAIGN, THE NEW CANAAN YMCA AWARDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE OF $125,266 TO APPROXIMATELY 282 INDIVIDUALS FOR MEMBERSHIP AND $101,921 TO APPROXIMATELY 183 INDIVIDUALS TOWARD PROGRAM ASSISTANCE.IN 2014, THE YMCA PROVIDED ALMOST $80,000 IN ASSISTANCE FOR 32 CHILDREN ENROLLED IN THE Y'S CHILDCARE CENTER AND $90,000 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO 107 CAMPERS TO ATTEND SUMMER CAMP. APPROXIMATELY $46,000 IN ASSISTANCE WAS APPROPRIATED FROM THE PROCEEDS OF Y'S ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT TO COVER THE EMPLOYMENT COSTS OF THE AIDES AND A NURSE. WITHOUT A NURSE ON SITE THE CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND CAMP. IN 2014, THE NEW CANAAN Y'S SPECIAL NEEDS DEPARTMENT OFFERED 15-17 SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS EVERY 12 WEEKS TO ADDRESS A GROWING NEED FOR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. THE Y PROVIDED ONE-ON-ONE SUPPORT FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN YMCA PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND 48 CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS DURING SUMMER CAMP. IN MARCH, 2014, THE Y HOSTED A WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY CELEBRATION (OVER 300 PEOPLE ATTENDED), TWO ALL OUT FOR AUTISM FAMILY DANCE PARTIES (APPROXIMATELY 80 FAMILIES PARTICIPATED) AND 35 EVENING SOCIAL/RECREATIONAL EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS FOR TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS INCLUDING TRIPS OUT TO DINNER, DRAMA/ART WORKSHOPS, POOL PARTIES, A RIDE ON OLD FAITHFUL FIRE TRUCK, VISIT TO THE POLICE STATION AND SPECIAL ENTERTAINMENT AT THE Y. IN THE SPRING, WE LAUNCHED THE FIRST SPECIAL NEEDS LACROSSE PROGRAM IN CONNECTICUT, 7 TEENS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS PARTICIPATED IN DRILLS AND GAMES WITH PEER ATHLETE BUDDIES.THE NEW CANAAN Y, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TOWN OF NEW CANAAN, HOSTED "FAMILY DINNER NIGHT", A FREE COMMUNITY EVENT PROVIDING FAMILIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY TOGETHER AND ENJOY EACH OTHER'S COMPANY AT DINNER AND PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES. AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE REQUIRED THE Y TO LIMIT DINNER PARTICIPANTS TO 200, WHILE THEY AND MANY MORE IN THE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATED IN THE ACTIVITIES. LEFTOVER FOOD WAS DONATED TO THE NEW CANAAN FIRE DEPARTMENT.THE YMCA HOSTED THREE FREE COMMUNITY EVENTS: VISIT WITH SANTA, HALLOWEEN PARTY AND THE NEW CANAAN YMCA BIRTHDAY BASH. AN AVERAGE OF 325 PEOPLE ATTENDED EACH EVENT IN 2014. BEGINNING IN 2014, THE Y SERVES AS THE HOME FOR A LOCAL PARKINSON'S SUPPORT GROUP, SUPPORTING OVER 40 INDIVIDUALS. IN 2014, THE NEW CANAAN YMCA PARTNERED WITH STAMFORD HOSPITAL TO OFFER 10 HEALTH LECTURES FREE AND OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY. OVER 130 PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED THESE EVENTS. IN OCTOBER 2014, WE EXPANDED OUR COLLABORATION THROUGH THE ADDITION OF AN ONSITE REGISTERED NURSE EMPLOYED BY STAMFORD HEALTH SYSTEMS. THE WELLNESS NURSE COORDINATOR PROVIDES ONSITE REFERRALS AND WELLNESS INFORMATION AND SCREENING SERVICES TO THE NEW CANAAN YMCA MEMBERS. THE NEW CANAAN YMCA MAINTAINS A RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER NONPROFITS AND MUNICIPAL PARTNERSHIPS INCLUDING: NEW CANAAN PARK & RECREATION, NEW CANAAN SOFTBALL, NEW CANAAN BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION, NEW CANAAN SOCCER ASSOCIATION, NEW CANAAN HIGH SCHOOL, ARTS FOR HEALING, YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES, 21 STRONG, SPED NET OF NEW CANAAN (ALL OUT FOR AUTISM RACE), NEW CANAAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS LAUNCH PROGRAM (THE PUBLIC SCHOOL'S TRANSITION PROGRAM FOR POST-HIGH SCHOOL AGES 18-21. THE TEENS FULFILL WORK STUDY AT THE YMCA AND USE THE GYM AND WELLNESS CENTER FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION. IN 2014, WITH THE HELP OF GENEROUS DONORS, THE NEW CANAAN YMCA APPROPRIATED $33,000 TO THIS INITIATIVE. IN 2014, A BOARD MEMBER OF THE NEW CANAAN YMCA JOINED AS EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER OF FAFU TO ENSURE QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY WITH PROGRAMS AND COMMUNICATION BETWEEN BOTH ORGANIZATIONS.THE NEW CANAAN YMCA CONTINUES TO BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF A COALITION AND PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE PERU YMCA IN SOUTH AMERICA, BRANDYWINE YMCA IN PENNSYLVANIA, SUNCOAST YMCA IN FLORIDA AND THE YUSA. IN 2013, TWO Y EMPLOYEES JOINED THE FIRST INTERGENERATIONAL MISSION TRIP TO THE PERU YMCA AND HAVE SINCE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER WITH ALL PARTIES TO ENSURE CONSISTENT COMMUNICATION AND GOALS FOR ALL. CURRENTLY, OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING, SHARING AND INITIATING FUTURE RELATIONSHIP BUILDING THROUGH GLOBAL AND LOCAL EXPERIENCES ARE BEING DEVELOPED. AN ESTIMATED 1,050 INDIVIDUALS VOLUNTEERED OVER 15,000 HOURS TO HELP STEER OPERATIONS AND DELIVER PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO YMCA MEMBERS AND PARTICIPANTS. IN 2014, THE NEW CANAAN YMCA WAS ACCEPTED BY THE YUSA TO BE A PART OF THE FIRST COHORT GROUP FOR THEIR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY SIGNATURE PROGRAM TOGETHERHOOD. MEMBERS FROM OUR YMCA LED TWO COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS FOR LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS. OVER 400 BATHING SUITS AND SWIMMING APPAREL WERE COLLECTED FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS IN NEED. THE SECOND PROJECT, OVER 65 CARDS WERE DECORATED WITH MESSAGES OF THANKS, APPRECIATION AND LOVE TO THE VETERANS ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY.
