What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The Iowa Occupational Therapy Association is a state affiliate of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Its members are occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and students within the profession. The mission is "to build the capacity of its members through education, reserach, and communication. The IOTA will act as a public advocate for Occupational Therapy to promote viabilty fo the profession and access to services." The three primary services/purposes are 1) offer continuing education, 2) advocate in healthcare policy and legislation, and 3) offer scholarship support.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 The IOTA's primary mission relates to education, advocacy, and scholarship on behalf of its members. With respect to education and scholarship, a yearly fall conference was held where members could receive education and research based information related to the practice of occupational therapy. At the fall conference the membership meeting is held to communicate significant license and legislative information that impacts practice. To further communicate with members, there are 4 newsletters yearly and additional email contacts as legislative issues arise. With respect to advocacy, general legislative and issue coverage is monitored by a lobbying firm with communication related to that offered to members. Additionally, this year a significant update to the licensure law was supported by IOTA with assistance of its members and the lobbying firm.
