Explanation
FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION
THE MISSION OF REBUILDING TOGETHER TWIN CITIES IS TO BRING VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITIES TOGETHER TO IMPROVE THE HOMES AND LIVES OF LOW-INCOME HOMEOWNERS. THIS SERVICE ENSURES THAT THESE HOMEOWNERS - PARTICULARLY OLDER ADULTS, INDIVIDUALS LIVING WITH A DISABILITY AND FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN - CAN LIVE INDEPENDENTLY IN HOMES THAT ARE SAFE AND WARM.
FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 2
REAL ESTATE OWNED (REO) TRANSFORMS DONATED VACANT FORECLOSED HOMES INTO SAFE, HEALTHY AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR QUALIFIED HOMEOWNERS. ONCE REHABILITATED, THESE HOMES ARE MADE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO EARN LESS THAN 120% OF THE AREA MEDIAN INCOME. PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF THESE HOMES ARE INVESTED BACK INTO REBUILDING TOGETHER PROGRAMS.
FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A
THEY ARE UNABLE TO ADDRESS. THESE MODIFICATIONS ARE PERFORMED BY VOLUNTEERS. NON-PROFIT FACILITY: REBUILDING TOGETHER TWIN CITIES' NON-PROFIT FACILITY/COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM PROVIDES RENOVATION AND BEAUTIFICATION WORK FOR COMMUNITY CENTERS, SCHOOLS, SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FACILITIES AND OUTDOOR COMMUNITY SPACES. THE WORK IS PERFORMED BY TEAMS OF VOLUNTEERS AND FOCUSES ON CREATING SAFE AND WELCOMING SPACES FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO GATHER. RAMP ACCESSIBILITY: REBUILDING TOGETHER TWIN CITIES' RAMP ACCESSIBILITY PROGRAM UTILIZES TEAMS OF VOLUNTEERS TO DESIGN, BUILD AND INSTALL WHEELCHAIR RAMPS FOR HOMEOWNERS IN NEED WHO ARE LIVING WITH A DISABILITY. REBUILDING TOGETHER TWIN CITIES REHABILITATED 161 HOMES IN MINNEAPOLIS, ST. PAUL, ANOKA, APPLE VALLEY, BLAINE, BROOKLYN CENTER, BROOKLYN PARK, BURNSVILLE, COON RAPIDS, CRYSTAL, EAGAN, EXCELSIOR, FARMINGTON, HILLTOP, LAKEVILLE, LEXINGTON, LITTLE CANADA, MOUNDVIEW, NEW BRIGHTON, OAKDALE, ROSEMOUNT, SAINT LOUIS PARK, AND WILLERNIE, AND SIX NON-PROFIT FACILITIES IN MINNEAPOLIS, ST. PAUL, BLAINE, AND NEW HOPE, MINNESOTA. THE 161 HOMES HOUSED A TOTAL OF 247 RESIDENTS. THE REHAB SERVICES TO THE NON-PROFIT FACILITIES DIRECTLY IMPACTED THE LIVES OF 4,973 AREA RESIDENTS THROUGH IMPROVEMENTS AT SIX LOCATIONS. PROJECTS FOR THIS YEAR UTILIZED 535 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTING 5,967 HOURS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY. THROUGH OUR REAL ESTATE OWNED (REO) PROGRAM, REBUILDING TOGETHER TWIN CITIES' VOLUNTEERS TRANSFORM VACANT FORECLOSED HOMES INTO SAFE, HEALTHY AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR NEW HOMEOWNERS. REBUILDING TOGETHER TWIN CITIES WORKS WITH BANKS THAT HAVE AN INVENTORY OF FORECLOSED HOMES AND WOULD LIKE TO RETURN THEM TO PRODUCTIVE USE TO SELECT A HOME FOR RENOVATION AND RESALE. ONCE A HOME HAS BEEN SELECTED, WE REACH OUT TO COMMUNITY AND NEIGHBORHOOD PARTNERS AND TO LARGER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS THAT WORK WITH FIRST-TIME HOMEBUYERS, SUCH AS THE MINNESOTA HOMEOWNERSHIP CENTER AND AREA NEIGHBORWORKS AFFILIATES, TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF THE OPPORTUNITY AND ASK THEM TO REFER POTENTIAL BUYERS. AFTER THE REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS ARE COMPLETE, WE WORK WITH A REALTOR TO MARKET AND SELL THE PROPERTY TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO EARN LESS THAN 120% OF THE AREA MEDIAN INCOME. ELIGIBLE BUYERS MUST ALSO COMPLETE A HOMEBUYER EDUCATION CLASS. THE BUYER ALSO MUST LIVE IN THE HOME; IT CANNOT BE SOLD TO AN INVESTOR. PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF THESE PROPERTIES ARE INVESTED BACK INTO THIS AND OTHER REBUILDING TOGETHER TWIN CITIES PROGRAMS THAT HELP PRESERVE AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOW-INCOME HOMEOWNERS AND PRESERVE NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGHOUT THE TWIN CITIES.
