Facts And Circumstances Test
OUR INTENTION AT INSIGHT PRODUCTIONS, INC. IS TO GET FUNDING FROM A VARIETY OF FUNDING SOURCES INCLUDING PUBLIC FOUNDATIONS, PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS, AND INDIVIDUALS. TO THAT END WE HAVE APPLIED FOR FUNDING FROM ALL OF THESE ENTITIES. IN SEEKING FUNDING FOR TAKING ROOT: THE VISION OF WANGARI MAATHAI, WE APPLIED TO AT LEAST NINE FOUNDATIONS AND RECEIVED FUNDING FROM FOUR. THE CERES TRUST SAW A ROUGH CUT OF TAKING ROOT: THE VISION OF WANGARI MAATHAI AND WAS INTERESTED IN HELPING US FINISH THE FILM, SO WE APPLIED TO THEM FOR A GRANT. THEY WERE AS INTERESTED IN OUR COMPLETING THE FILM AS THEY WERE IN THE FILM REACHING A BROAD, DIVERSE, PUBLIC AUDIENCE THROUGHOUT THE USA AND BEYOND. THEREFORE, PART OF THE GRANT WE APPLIED FOR WAS EXPRESSLY FOR OUTREACH. DUE TO THEIR GENEROUS FUNDING, WE WERE ABLE TO FINISH THE FILM AND LAUNCH AN IMPRESSIVE OUTREACH AND DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM (SEE SERVICES FACTOR BELOW). AS WE HAVE RECEIVED MANY REQUESTS FOR DIFFERENT LANGUAGE VERSIONS OF TAKING ROOT, WE REAPPLIED TO THE CERES TRUST AND RECEIVED FUNDING TO LAUNCH AN IMPRESSIVE INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH CAMPAIGN AS WELL. WE ALSO RECEIVED DONATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS FOR THIS OUTREACH CAMPAIGN. THE CERES TRUST ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO THE AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT CAMPAIGN FOR LIVING DOWNSTREAM, AS DID THE TIDES FOUNDATION AND KENDEDA FUND. (SEE SERVICES FACTOR BELOW). WE ARE CONTINUALLY SEEKING NEW SOURCES OF FUNDING TO EXPAND OUR FUNDING BASE. FOR THE PRESENT FISCAL YEAR WE HAVE JUST RECEIVED FUNDING FROM THE MASSACHUSETTS HUMANITIES COUNCIL FOR A NEW PROJECT PRESENTLY IN PRODUCTION. DUE TO THE HIGHLY DEMANDING NATURE OF THE FILMING AND EDITING PROCESS, ONCE WE SECURE SUFFICIENT FUNDING TO COMPLETE A FILM AND SUSTAIN AN EXTENSIVE OUTREACH PROGRAM, WE SLOW DOWN OUR FUNDRAISING AND GRANT WRITING EFFORTS IN ORDER TO FOCUS ON EXTENDING THE IMPACT OF EACH FILM TO THE BROADEST POSSIBLE AUDIENCE BOTH DOMESTICALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY. WE ALSO SEEK INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO SUPPORT OUR WORK THROUGH OUR WEBSITE, AT PUBLIC VIEWING OF OUR FILMS, ETC. SERVICES FACTOR THE PUBLIC SERVICES FACTOR PROVIDED BY THE FILMS OF INSIGHT PRODUCTIONS, INC. IS EXTENSIVE. OUR FILMS, LIKE SCHOLARLY STUDIES, ARE USED WIDELY BY UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES, AND K-12 SCHOOLS; THEY ARE ALSO USED BY THE PUBLIC THROUGH PUBLIC LIBRARIES, COMMUNITY SCREENINGS, NON-PROFITS, SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE BUSINESSES AND GRASSROOTS ACTIVISTS. TAKING ROOT: THE VISION OF WANGARI MAATHAI WAS BROADCAST NATIONALLY ON THE PBS SERIES INDEPENDENT LENS AND THROUGH THAT BROADCAST REACHED 500,000 VIEWERS IN ITS FIRST WEEK. IN ADDITION, IT WAS PART OF COMMUNITY CINEMA AND COMMUNITY CLASSROOM, INITIATIVES OF PBS THAT BRING THE FILM TO CLASSROOMS AND COMMUNITIES ALL OVER THE USA. THROUGH COMMUNITY CINEMA TAKING ROOT WAS SHOWN IN 57 COMMUNITIES TO AN ADDITIONAL 4,000 PEOPLE. EXPERTS FROM 128 PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS WERE INVOLVED IN THESE FREE SCREENINGS AS PANELISTS WHO LED POST DISCUSSION SCREENINGS. IT IS NOW BEING SHOWN ON GLOBAL VOICES, ANOTHER PBS VENUE, AND IS STILL SHOWN BY COMMUNITY GROUPS ALL OVER THE USA. BETWEEN 2011-14 LIVING DOWNSTREAM HAD 200 PUBLIC SCREENINGS AND REACHED 4 MILLION VIEWERS WORLDWIDE. IN ADDITION, NOTEWORTHY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: "INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION BROADCASTS ON SUCH CHANNELS AS OUTSIDE TELEVISION (US), TV CULTURA (BRAZIL), YLE (FINLAND), TVNZ (NEW ZEALAND) "CREATION OF A RANGE OF SCREENING RESOURCES TO HELP GROUPS PLAN SCREENINGS OF THE FILM (AVAILABLE AT WWW.LIVINGDOWNSTREAM.COM/HOLD_SCREENING) "CREATION OF AN EDUCATIONAL DVD TO BE USED FOR PUBLIC SCREENINGS "HIGH-PROFILE PUBLIC SCREENINGS, INCLUDING THE AMERICAN PUBLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, THE COUNCIL ON FOUNDATIONS FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL, CLEANMED CONFERENCE, WORLDFEST HOUSTON, MOUNTAINFILM IN TELLURIDE, AND THE PRINCETON ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL "SANDRA STEINGRABER, THE SUBJECT OF THE FILM, PUBLISHED A SERIES OF 17 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ESSAYS ON WWW.HUFFINGTONPOST.COM, WHICH WERE MADE FREELY AVAILABLE FOR REPUBLICATION FOR NONPROFIT AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES. THEY HAVE BEEN REPRODUCED BY AT LEAST 30 OUTLETS. "CREATION OF THE EDUCATIONAL DVD, AS TWO-DISC SET, WHICH CONTAINS TWO VERSIONS OF THE FILM AND OVER FOUR HOURS OF BONUS FEATURES. THIS DVD HAS BEEN DISTRIBUTED TO MORE THAN 1,200 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE BUSINESSES, AND GRASSROOTS ACTIVISTS.
