THE BANGOR YMCA IS A COMMUNITY LEADER IN SUPPORTING CHILDREN, ADULTS, AND FAMILIES IN THEIR LIFELONG QUEST FOR PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND SOCIAL WELLNESS. WE ARE COMMITTED TO ENRICHING, ENHANCING, AND CHANGING LIVES THROUGH OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT PROMOTE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, HEALTHY LIVING, AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

IN 2014, 568 CHILDREN AND TEENS PARTICIPATED IN OUR SLEEP AWAY, ADVENTURE SEEKERS, AND LEADERS SCHOOL PROGRAM, WITH MORE THAN 38,414 PROVIDED IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. CAMP G. PIERCE WEBBER IS OUR DAY CAMP, AND HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1945. CAMP WEBBER SITS ON 55 ACRES ON THE SOUADABSCOOK STREAM WITH SPORT FIELDS, PLAYGROUND, ROPES COURSE, SWIMMING POOL, HIKING TRAILS, AND A 300 FOOT ZIP LINE. FOR CHILDREN FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 6TH GRADE, OUR CARING AND EXPERIENCED CAMP STAFF TEACHES THESE CHILDREN ARCHERY, SWIMMING, ARTS AND CRAFTS, FISHING, SPORTS, NATURE EXPLORATIONS, AND MORE. SINCE ITS INCEPTION 71 YEARS AGO, OUR BANGOR YMCA CAMP G. PIERCE WEBBER HAS FILLED MORE THAN 89,600 CAMPER POSITIONS, WITH MORE THAN 60% BEING ON SCHOLARSHIP. THIS HAS GIVEN CHILDREN A SAFE, FUN, LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS. IN 2014, 1,104 CHILDREN ATTENDED CAMP G. PIERCE WEBBER, WITH 37,627 PROVIDED IN SCHOLARSHIPS. THE BANGOR YMCA CHILDCARE PROGRAMS, WHICH INCLUDES DISCOVERY FRIENDS AND Y-WORKS, HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR THE PAST 36 YEARS. DISCOVERY FRIENDS IS AN ALL-DAY CHILDCARE FOR INFANTS FROM 18 MONTHS TO 5 YEARS. Y-WORKS IS OUR BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE PROGRAM FOR KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 6TH GRADE. WE TRANSPORT CHILDREN FROM SURROUNDING CITIES TO THE Y, ENABLING WORKING FAMILIES TO STAY AND WORK AND KNOW THEIR CHILDREN ARE SAFE AND BEING CARED FOR BY LOVING AND NURTURING Y STAFF. OUR PROGRAMS SERVE MORE THAN 140 CHILDREN EVERY MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, NO MATTER WHETHER IT IS SUN, RAIN, OR SNOW. WE ARE ALWAYS HERE TO SERVE THE FAMILIES OF THIS COMMUNITY. INTERACT LEADERS CLUB FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS EMPOWERS THEM TO MAKE CHANGES THAT IMPACT THE COMMUNITY IN A POSITIVE WAY THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM, CREATION OF PROJECTS, AND SERVING THE NEEDS OF OTHERS. 4. NEIGHBORHOOD CLUB, WHICH IS FOR CHILDREN IN 3RD-5TH GRADES, FOCUSES ON AGE APPROPRIATE TEACHINGS IN THE AREAS OF COMMUNICATION, LIFE SKILLS, HEALTHY LIVING, AND MAKING GOOD CHOICES. 5. JUMPSTART, WHICH IS AN 8-WEEK ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR NON-VIOLENT, FIRST-TIME JUVENILE OFFENDERS WHO ARE AT RISK OF ENTERING THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. JUMPSTART EMPOWERS YOUTH BY TEACHING DECISION-MAKING AND GOAL-SETTING SKILLS, IMPACT AND CONSEQUENCES OF CHOICES, AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES. IN 2014, 200 MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL AGED TEENS WERE SUPPORTED BY ONE OF THE MANY PROGRAMS OF THE BANGOR YMCA YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAM. THE BANGOR YMCA YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM IS AN INCLUSIVE ENDEAVOR, MEANING THAT ALL CHILDREN ARE WELCOMED, ENCOURAGED, MOTIVATED, INSPIRED, TAUGHT, AND DEVELOPED. WE ENSURE THAT ALL CHILDREN WHO DIFFER IN VARIOUS CHARACTERISTICS, INCLUDING PHYSICAL ABILITY, RACE, GENDER, RELIGION, OR SKILL-LEVEL ARE INCLUDED IN PARTICIPATION. OUR GOAL IS TO HELP DEVELOP CHILDREN'S AND TEEN'S CHARACTER, ACCEPTANCE, AND LIFE SKILLS THROUGH SPORTS.
