SCHEDULE G, PART I, LINE 2B FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS ARE MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH A VARIETY OF FUNDING METHODS, INCLUDING CHILD SPONSORSHIP, A CONTINUITY PROGRAM WHERE AN INDIVIDUAL AGREES TO SPONSOR A NEEDY CHILD BY MEANS OF ONGOING MONTHLY CONTRIBUTIONS. DUE TO THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE INDIVIDUAL AND CHILD, MANY SPONSORS CONTINUE THEIR COMMITMENT FOR MULTIPLE YEARS. BECAUSE OF THIS LONGEVITY, IT IS NECESSARY, WHEN LOOKING AT THE VALUE OF A FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN, TO CONSIDER THE INCOME GENERATED BY THOSE SPONSORS OVER SEVERAL YEARS. THEREFORE, INCOME RESULTING FROM FUNDRAISING SPENDING IN 2014 WILL BE REALIZED OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS. IN 2014, 82% OF ALL INCOME WAS USED TO PROVIDE BENEFITS AND SERVICES TO CHILDREN, YOUTH, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES IN DESPERATE NEED.

AND, WHEN OBSTACLES SUCH AS SCHOOL FEES, TUITION AND TRANSPORTATION COSTS LIMIT STUDENTS' ACCESS TO EDUCATION, IT OFFERS FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS. FOSTERING SELF-RELIANCE WITHOUT RESILIENCE AND POSITIVE ATTITUDES, CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE LIMITED OPPORTUNITIES. THAT'S WHY CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL'S APPROACH INCLUDES SPECIFIC PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO TEACH LIFE AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS DURING THE PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE TEEN YEARS. THE ORGANIZATION ENCOURAGES YOUTH TO PARTICIPATE IN LEADERSHIP TRAINING SO THEY LEARN TO WORK EFFECTIVELY WITH OTHERS AND DEVELOP SELF-CONFIDENCE. THOSE WHO EXCEL ARE LIKELY TO BE ELECTED TO THEIR LOCAL YOUTH COUNCIL. THESE SELECT LEADERS DETERMINE THE BEST USE OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FUNDS THAT CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROVIDES AND THEN ORGANIZE LOCAL COMMUNITY-IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS. BECAUSE IMPOVERISHED GIRLS TYPICALLY HAVE FEWER OPPORTUNITIES AND RESOURCES THAN MALES, CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL EMPHASIZES FEMALE EMPOWERMENT TO FOSTER SELF-RELIANCE. AS A RESULT, GIRLS WHO PARTICIPATE IN CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL'S PROGRAMS ARE MORE LIKELY TO STAY HEALTHY, BE EDUCATED, AVOID EARLY MARRIAGE AND PREGNANCY, AND PURSUE THE LIVES THEY CHOOSE TO LEAD.
Youth Development and Employability CI'S COMPREHENSIVE YOUTH PROGRAM OFFERS A ROBUST ASSORTMENT OF ACTIVITIES THAT HELP YOUTH STAY HEALTHY, COMPLETE SCHOOL OR JOB TRAINING, FIND GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT AND GIVE BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITIES. CAREER READINESS AND INTO EMPLOYMENT THE ORGANIZATION'S CAREER READINESS ACTIVITIES TEACH YOUTH HOW TO FIND WORK, INTERVIEW EFFECTIVELY AND BE GOOD EMPLOYEES. CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL'S INTO EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM MATCHES YOUTH WITH TRADE SCHOOLS AND FORMAL WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES, HELPING THEM ACQUIRE JOB SKILLS THAT ARE IN DEMAND LOCALLY. SPORTS FOR DEVELOPMENT SPORTS ARE A GREAT WAY TO PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY. CI'S ORGANIZED SPORTS LEAGUES ALSO TEACH THE VALUE OF HEALTHY ACTIVITY, TEAMWORK AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION. SOCIAL AND FINANCIAL EDUCATION PARENTS IN THE ORGANIZATION'S PROGRAM FREQUENTLY ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH BANKS AND OTHER FORMAL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS. IN RESPONSE, CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL TEACHES YOUNG PEOPLE HOW TO EARN AN INCOME, OPEN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT, AND BUDGET MONEY AND OTHER RESOURCES. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO EDUCATES THEM ABOUT THEIR RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES. YOUTH HEALTH CORPS EMPOWERING YOUTH WITH KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THEIR BODIES GIVES THEM MORE CONTROL OVER THEIR LIVES. THE YOUTH HEALTH CORPS EMPLOYS PEER EDUCATION TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE. LEADERSHIP TRAINING GOOD LEADERS NEED TRAINING AND OPPORTUNITIES TO SHINE. CI'S PROGRAMS EQUIP YOUTH WITH COMMUNICATION, PROBLEM-SOLVING AND DECISION-MAKING SKILLS. THEY ALSO ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY-SERVICE PROJECTS. HOPE SCHOLARSHIPS ACCESS TO EDUCATION CAN BE LIMITED IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD; IT'S NOT UNUSUAL TO PAY TUITION FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, AND ADDITIONAL SCHOOLING CAN BE COST-PROHIBITIVE. CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH ITS HOPE FUND TO QUALIFIED YOUTH IN NEED OF EDUCATION ASSISTANCE.
FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A & 4B PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS CONTINUED LINE 4B ------- COMMUNITY CENTERS & CARING ADULTS CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROVIDES ITS MOST COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMS WITHIN ITS COMMUNITY CENTERS. NEWER STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES HAVE SPECIFIC YOUTH ROOMS AND AREAS, WHICH ARE SEPARATE FROM THE GATHERING SPACES FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN, TO ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION AND ENHANCE TEEN ACTIVITIES. WHILE BUILDINGS ARE IMPORTANT, THEY AREN'T WHAT MAKE CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL'S PROGRAMS A SUCCESS; IT'S THE PEOPLE WHO INVEST IN THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH WHO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. LOCAL VOLUNTEERS GLOBALLY, NEARLY 8,000 INDIVIDUALS VOLUNTEER IN SUPPORT OF CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL. THESE TRAINED VOLUNTEERS - TYPICALLY THE PARENTS OF SPONSORED CHILDREN AND YOUTH - CONDUCT FAMILY VISITS IN SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS, ARE THE FIRST TO KNOW ABOUT LOCAL AND DOMESTIC SITUATIONS, AND SERVE AS AN INVALUABLE CONDUIT OF INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE. THESE INDIVIDUALS ALSO SUPPORT PROGRAMMING THAT TEACHES CHILDREN AND YOUTH HOW TO ORGANIZE PROJECTS AND BE LEADERS. THEN, THESE DEDICATED ADULTS ENCOURAGE TEENS TO GIVE BACK BY TUTORING YOUNGER CHILDREN AND LEADING COMMUNITY-IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS. IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE FOR DECADES - WELL AFTER THEIR OWN CHILDREN HAVE GRADUATED FROM CI'S PROGRAM. PROFESSIONAL STAFF THE ORGANIZATION'S COMMUNITY CENTER WORKFORCE IS COMPRISED ENTIRELY OF IN-COUNTRY NATIONALS, INCLUDING EVERY DOCTOR, DENTIST, NUTRITIONIST, AGENCY DIRECTOR, TEACHER AND LIBRARIAN. THESE NATIVE PROFESSIONALS SPEAK THE LOCAL LANGUAGE AND DIALECT AND UNDERSTAND THE LOCAL CHALLENGES, CUSTOMS AND BELIEF SYSTEMS. ALLIANCES AND PARTNERSHIPS COLLABORATION IS THE KEY TO PROVIDING EFFECTIVE, ECONOMICAL HUMANITARIAN RELIEF. THAT'S WHY CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL IS COMMITTED TO SECURING PARTNERSHIPS AND PRODUCT DONATIONS. THE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT ALLOWS THE ORGANIZATION TO PROVIDE A HIGHER VOLUME OF DIRECT ASSISTANCE TO CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. THIS YEAR, CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL SERVED AS A TOMS SHOES GIVING PARTNER. THROUGH THIS SPECIAL PARTNERSHIP, NEW TOMS SHOES HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD. SHOES PROTECT CHILDREN AND YOUTH FROM INJURY, AS WELL AS SOIL-BASED PARASITES THAT ENTER THROUGH BARE FEET, WHILE ALSO PROMOTING REGULAR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND EASING FAMILIES' FINANCIAL BURDENS. CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATED WITH THE PLANET WATER FOUNDATION. THROUGH THE PARTNERSHIP "AQUATOWERS" HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN THE PHILIPPINES AND INDIA AT CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY CENTERS AND SCHOOLS IN SURROUNDING AREAS WHERE WATERBORNE DISEASES ARE PREVALENT. CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL AND PLANET WATER ALSO DEPLOYED 10 MOBILE EMERGENCY WATER SYSTEMS, WHICH CAN BE USED DURING NATURAL DISASTERS TO PRODUCE SAFE DRINKING WATER FROM OPEN SOURCES, TO COMMUNITIES IN THE PHILIPPINES. OTHER PARTNERS OF CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL INCLUDE THE CLEAN THE WORLD FOUNDATION, WHICH DISTRIBUTES HYGIENE KITS TO AID IN SANITATION AND HEALTH EFFORTS; HOUGHTON MIFFLIN, WHICH PROVIDES BOOKS; AND ONE WORLD FUTBOL, WHICH DONATES NEARLY INDESTRUCTIBLE SOCCER BALLS TO CI'S SPORTS FOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL HAS WORKED COLLABORATIVELY WITH THE U.S. PEACE CORPS, USAID AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. ITS AGENCIES ALSO WORK IN COUNTRY WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES, SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES, AS WELL AS BUSINESSES AND OTHER NONGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS. IN 2014, CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL WAS RECOGNIZED AT THE UNITED NATIONS "MY WORLD PARTNER" EVENT AND AWARDS CEREMONY FOR ITS WORK IN ENSURING THE VOICES OF IMPOVERISHED YOUNG PEOPLE WERE HEARD DURING THE GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS STARTING IN 2015. IMPACTING THE BROADER COMMUNITY COMMUNITY CENTERS MAY PROVIDE THE MOST ROBUST OFFERING OF CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL'S PROGRAMMING, BUT ITS EFFORTS ALSO BENEFIT THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. FOLLOWING ARE HIGHLIGHTS FROM CI'S BROADER DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS AROUND THE WORLD: COMMUNITY LITERACY CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROVIDES LITERACY PROGRAMS IN MORE THAN 20 COUNTRIES WHERE BOOKS ARE NOT READILY AVAILABLE. EDUCATION + FOOD IN ZAMBIA CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL'S ZAMBIAN COMMUNITY-SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM PROVIDES A DAILY MEAL FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN. THIS OFFERING HAS A DUAL IMPACT: THE FREE MEALS ENTICE CHILDREN TO ATTEND SCHOOL, THUS DELIVERING BOTH EDUCATION AND NUTRITION - A POWERFUL COMBINATION. DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE WHEN A SEVERE CRISIS STRIKES, CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL OFFERS ITS COMMUNITY CENTERS AS HUBS FOR DISASTER RESPONSE AND PROVIDES CRITICAL ASSISTANCE TO VICTIMS. WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE (WASH) SAFE WATER IS A CRITICAL COMPONENT TO ENSURING CHILDREN LEAD HEALTHY LIVES. CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL COORDINATES PROJECTS TO INSTALL WELLS AND FILTRATION SYSTEMS, COLLABORATES WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO REPAIR EXISTING SYSTEMS, DEVELOPS CLEAN WATER AND HYGIENE SOLUTIONS, PROVIDES EMERGENCY WATER ASSISTANCE AND EDUCATES FAMILIES ON THE SAFE STORAGE AND USE OF WATER. RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL DELIVERS A VARIETY OF COMMUNICATION TOOLS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH LIVING IN POVERTY AND THE SOLUTIONS CI OFFERS. THESE TOOLS INCLUDE JOURNEYS MAGAZINE, DIGITAL NEWSLETTERS, WHITE PAPERS, SPEAKING PRESENTATIONS, BLOG POSTS, EDUCATIONAL FLIERS/BROCHURES AND PRESS RELEASES. TOGETHER, THESE EFFORTS ARE DESIGNED TO INFORM THE PUBLIC AND RAISE AWARENESS OF THE IMPACT THAT EVEN ONE PERSON CAN HAVE IN LIFTING THOSE IN NEED OUT OF THEIR IMPOVERISHED CIRCUMSTANCES. TRANSFORMING SPONSORS' LIVES SPONSORSHIP IS FAR MORE THAN AN EFFECTIVE FUNDING MODEL. AT ITS CORE SPONSORSHIP IS A SHARED EXPERIENCE BETWEEN AN INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTOR AND AN INDIVIDUAL BENEFICIARY. WHILE THE ORGANIZATION'S PROGRAMS FOCUS ON IMPROVING THE LIVES OF THOSE LIVING IN POVERTY, THE ORGANIZATION ALSO RECOGNIZES THE POSITIVE IMPACT THE RELATIONSHIP BRINGS TO THE CHILD IN THE FORM OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND FRIENDSHIP, AND THE CONTRIBUTOR IN THE FORM OF PURPOSE AND FULFILLMENT. CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL STRIVES TO SHARE THIS KNOWLEDGE TO ENSURE DONORS UNDERSTAND HOW THEIR OWN LIVES MAY BE POSITIVELY TRANSFORMED BY BEING SUPPORTIVE OF THE ORGANIZATION AND SPONSORED CHILDREN AND YOUTH.
