WE ALSO COORDINATE COMMUNITY- WIDE SERVICES PROJECTS FOR THE FOLLOWING 5 NATIONAL DAYS OF SERVICE TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY IN SERVICE: MLK, JR. DAY OF SERVICE, NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK, 9/11 DAY OF SERVICE & REMEMBRANCE, MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY AND FAMILY VOLUNTEER DAY. NEXT, WE HELP LOCAL NONPROFITS CREATE AWARENESS ABOUT AND HELP RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS FOR THEIR SPECIFIC NEEDS. WE ALSO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR NONPROFITS IN THE AREAS OF VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT AND BASIC NONPROFIT OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS SUCH AS BUDGETING, ACCOUNTING, ETC. LASTLY, WE ASSIST LOCAL BUSINESSES DEVELOP CORPORATE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS AND ASSIST THEM IN FINDING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. FOR EXAMPLE, WE HAVE ASSISTED CADENCE BANK EMPLOYEES IN FINDING FINANCIAL LITERACY FOCUSED VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. DURING FY2014, VOLUNTEER STARKVILLE ASSISTED 131 LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT EFFORTS AND PROVIDED 287 HOURS IN VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT TRAINING AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAININGS TO 140 NONPROFIT PARTICIPANTS. WE ENGAGED APPROXIMATELY 2,388 VOLUNTEERS WHO CONTRIBUTED 3,257.5 HOURS OF SERVICE TO STARKVILLE AND OKTIBBEHA COUNTY THROUGH VARIOUS SERVICE PROJECTS WE COORDINATED. 1,438 OF THESE VOLUNTEERS WERE ENGAGED IN NATIONAL DAYS OF SERVICE. VOLUNTEER STARKVILLE RECOGNIZED 1,006 VOLUNTEERS FOR THEIR SERVICE THROUGH VARIOUS METHODS INCLUDING OUR VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT BLOG AND VOLUNTEER AWARDS.
