What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The American Immigration Lawyers Association is the national association of immigration lawyers established to promote justice, advocate for fair and reasonable immigration law and policy, advance the quality of immigration and nationality law and practice, and enhance the professional development of its members.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Pro Bono Service and Organizing Throughout the year, pro-bono liaisons linked parties to available pro bono service resources, and linked volunteers to appropriate organizations. As an example of an ongoing community relationship, AILA NorCal attorneys continue to work with the Bar Association of San Francisco to staff master calendar hearings as pro bono counsel of the day, appearing with respondents who have not yet secured counsel to request continuances, file changes of address, and make referrals to counsel. As an example of a new connection, in October 2014, AlLA NorCal sponsored a group of volunteer attorneys to travel to the family detention center in Artesia, New Mexico to provide free legal screenings and representation for the women and children in their removal proceedings.

29 CLE and Program EventsCLEs: AILA NorCal hosts nearly one event per month to the benefit of our membership. We are a certified CLE provider, and our members are able to earn CLE credits at our educational events. In January 2015, we offered a Mini-Conference allowing members to obtain 3 hours of the hard-to-get CLEs. Social events: AILA NorCal hosts several social events throughout the year that usually involve interaction with governmental agencies. We presented an Agency Dinner in the fall with USCIS, CBP, and Asylum officers, and an opportunity to meet Immigration Judges and court staff in the spring.

30 Community DonationsAILA NorCal prides itself in being able to offer donations to local nonprofits who help immigrants and provide other benefits to local immigrant communities. We donate a large portion of our annual membership dues to this endeavor.
