| Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services Description | OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: As part of its continued commitment to supporting education in advanced computing systems, USENIX provides funding for the USA Computing Olympiad, a computer problem solving contest for high school students run by Dr. Brian Dean of Clemson University. Originally founded by Dr. Don Piele and developed with the assistance of Rob Kolstad, this group runs the US competition to select the USA team which competes at the International Olympiad in Informatics. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: USENIX has two grant programs. The student grant program enables full-time students to attend USENIX conferences, workshops and symposia by assisting with travel, hotel and registration expenses. In the year 2014, awards were made to 269 students from many different institutions. Since 1990, this program has made over 3793 awards. The women's grant program supports travel expenses and/or event registration fees, and is designed to support equal representation for women in the field. In 2014, USENIX awarded 38 women's grants. Grant recipients are selected based on their involvement in the particular field and the strength of their application essay. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: USENIX is an affiliate member of the Computing Research Association (CRA), and has sponsored some of its activities. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Misc. projects: USENIX funds additional projects and awards related to advanced computing and education. Program expenses include office support for all of the projects and grants. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Line 6: Explanation of Classes of Members or Shareholder | The USENIX Association has over 2500 members worldwide. This is a community of engineers, system administrators, scientists, researchers, educators and technicians working on the cutting edge of the computing world. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Line 7a: How Members or Shareholders Elect Governing Body | Members of USENIX elect the Board of Directors and Officers in an election held every two years. A nominating committee submits candidates at least sixteen weeks prior to the election. Five members, acting together, may also submit a candidate.
