Statement of Program Service Accomplishments
Check if Schedule O contains a response or note to any line in this Part III ..............
1
Briefly describe the organization’s mission: To help feed, educate and advocate for Idaho's hungry through collaborative partnerships to develop efficient solutions that strengthen individuals, families and communities. This is accomplished through the operation of three warehouse food distribution centers in Idaho, distributing food to a network of 189 partner agencies across our service area. We also operate direct service programs delivering purchased & donated foods to children and rural areas of Idaho.
2
Did the organization undertake any significant program services during the year which were not listed on
the prior Form 990 or 990-EZ? ......................
If "Yes," describe these new services on Schedule O.
3
Did the organization cease conducting, or make significant changes in how it conducts, any program services? ............................
If "Yes," describe these changes on Schedule O.
4
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. Section 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations are required to report the amount of grants and allocations to others, the total expenses, and revenue, if any, for each program service reported.
4a (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 28,621,469 including grants of $ 26,820,859 ) (Revenue $ 100,431 )
Direct and indirect distribution of donated and purchased food: The Idaho Foodbank operates facilities in Boise, Lewiston, and Pocatello through which it distributes donated and purchased food to more than 189 501(c)(3) community partners in 39 of 44 Idaho counties. Community partners include, pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, and supplemental food programs. In rural communities that lack a local pantry or food bank partner, The Idaho Foodbank conducts scheduled mobile pantry deliveries of fresh, dry, and frozen food. In the most recent fiscal year, The Idaho Foodbank distributed 16,139,846 pounds of food, the equivalent of 13,449,872 meals. As much as 89% of that distributed food was donated. When food must be purchased, volume buying power maximizes the use of donor contributions. Every dollar donated, provides an Idahoan who is hungry with food for four meals. The Idaho Foodbank works with growers, processors, and wholesale and retail distributors to ensure that surplus food items that would otherwise be sent to the local landfill are collected and distributed for the purpose of feeding hungry people. Much of the work involved in the collection, repacking, and distribution of food is conducted by volunteers. Last year, 20,388 people invested 61,379 hours in helping provide hunger relief to their neighbors in need.
4b (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 1,005,638 including grants of $ 0 ) (Revenue $ 27,992 )
Nutritional Services: The Idaho Foodbank develops and implements direct-service programs to provide hunger relief to especially vulnerable populations including families, children, and seniors. Programs in addition to the Mobile Pantry mentioned above, include Backpack, School Pantry, Picnic in the Park, Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters, and Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). To help ensure the success of these programs, The Idaho Foodbank works in collaboration with educators, administrators, local government and others who are committed to promoting healthier families and more stable communities. During the 2014-2015 school year, the Foodbank's Backpack program distributed a total of 63,791 backpacks. Statewide, 1,804 children received a backpack each week. Over that same period, the School Pantry program provided food for 125,000 meals to 9,534 individuals. Many of these programs provide long-term benefits to the recipients. School staff report that the Backpack program, for example, has created the largest noticeable difference in student attendance, self-esteem, disposition, and energy levels. These positive changes help children learn and enjoy school, which has a significant impact on future education attainment. The Foodbank continues to provide hunger-relief to school-aged children during the summer months, when school is not in
