Part II, Line 17b--FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES TESTTHE MARY KAY FOUNDATION FOUNDED IN 1996 BY MAY KAY ASH HAS DONATED OVER $ 55,000,000 IN GRANTS FOR CANCER AFFECTING WOMEN AND ELIMINATING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. THE FOUNDATION RECEIVES A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF ITS SUPPORT FROM CONTRIBUTORS AND FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC. OVER THE COURSE OF ITS EXISTENCE, MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC HAVE DONATED ON THE AVERAGE OF NO LESS THAN 25% OF ITS FUNDS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO REGULARLY ATTRACTS NEW AND ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC. IN 2013, 22,980 PERSONS CONTRIBUTED AN AVERAGE OF $ 166 DOLLARS TOWARDS THE FOUNDATION'S TWIN GOALS. THIS LARGE DONOR BASE IS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE ABILITY OF THE FOUNDATION TO REACH THE MORE THAN 600,000 INDEPENDENT BEAUTY CONSULTANTS WHO SELL MARY KAY PRODUCTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE FOUNDATION HAS A STRONG HISTORY OF SUPPORTING EXCELLENT ORGANIZATIONS THAT FURTHER THE GOALS OF ELIMINATING CANCERS AFFECTING WOMEN AND ENDING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. THE FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS TO QUALIFIED MEDICAL SCHOOLS IN THE UNITED STATES, SHELTERS FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND CANCER CARE FOR ITS TOUCHING HEARTS PROGRAM. THE FOUNDATION MADE GRANTS TO CANCER CARE ($400,000), YWCA WOMEN'S HEALTH ($25,000), CANCER SUPPORT CENTER OF NORTH TEXAS ($25,0000) BAYLOR HEALTH CARE ($10,000), THE CONFERENCE ON CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN ($75,000). GRANTS TO MEDICAL SCHOOLS ARE IN THE AMOUNT OF $ 100,000. ALSO, THE FOUNDATION DONATES $20,000 TO 150 SHELTERS FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN EVERY STATE IN THE UNITED STATES, FOR A TOTAL CONTRIBUTION OF $3,000,000. THESE 150 GRANTS ARE MADE FOLLOWING A CAREFUL VETTING OF THE SHELTERS THAT MUST SUBMIT A DETAILED APPLICATION TO THE FOUNDATION'S BOARD. THIS LARGE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS (USUALLY NUMBERING OVER 700), IS REVIEWED BY A CONTINGENT OF VOLUNTEERS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC WHO SUPPORT THE FOUNDATION AND ITS CAUSES. OVER 26,000 WOMEN AND CHILDREN HAVE BENEFITED FROM THE SHELTER GRANTS. THE CANCER CARE PROGRAM AIDS WOMEN AND MEN SUFFERING FROM CANCER WHO DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS NECESSARY TO PAY FOR CERTAIN EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH THE TREATMENT REGIMEN. SINCE INCEPTION, OVER 33,000 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SUPPORTED BY THE TOUCHING HEARTS PROGRAM. IN 2013, OVER 2,600 WERE AIDED BY FUNDS CONTRIBUTED BY THE MARY KAY FOUNDATION TO THE PROGRAM.
