In September 2013, the annual home show was held at the Higher Education Center in Abingdon VA. Booth rentals were available to both members & non-members of the organization. Of the 65 booths available,approximately 26 were committed. Representatives from local builders & subcontractors including kitchen & bath specialists, landscape contractors, solar installers, HVAC & masonry suppliers, as well as lenders & utility companies were present. The event was staffed by volunteer HBA members. The Home Show provided an opportunity for local builder businesses to showcase & promote services & products available through them. Advertising for the event included digital billboards, internet ads, television spots on cable & print ads in local publications. Discount programs available to members through affiliation with National Home Builders Association & Home Builders Association of Virginia were presented to members & other interested persons. Monthly meetings of the membership throughout the year provided members the opportunity to network with other firms & contractors.

Governing body meeting documentation Part VI line 8a Volunteer members acting as the governing body, officers & directors of the HBA meet on a regular monthly basis however no formal written summary of meetings held is prepared. Actions taken affecting the HBA are verbally communicated to the membership as needed.
Committee meeting documentation Part VI line 8b As stated in the explanation to Form 990, Part VI, line 8a,volunteer members acting as the governing body, officers & directors of the HBA meet on a regular monthly basis but no formal written summary of meetings held is prepared. Currently this is the only committee of the HBA.
Form 990 governing body review Part VI line 11 The HBA's Form 990 is reviewed by the officers & directors prior to submission to IRS. IRS Form 990 is prepared by an independent tax preparer selected by the board who presents the return for their review at a scheduled meeting of the volunteer board.
Form 990 availability to public Part VI line 18 The HBA's Form 990 is made available to the general public upon request. Once a request for review has been received, volunteer members of the board assess the request & then arrange for a mutually agreeable time for this inspection by the interested party to occur. There were no requests during the current fiscal year, therefore no documents were made available to the public.
