Form 990, Part III, Line 4	Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation MSFB carries out its exempt function through education/promotion of agriculture, development/training of leaders, and development/implementation of policies which further agriculture and improve rural life.
Form 990, Part III, Line 4a	One of the educational programs of MSFB is the Ag in the Classroom program, which trains classroom educators about productions agriculture and provides creative ways for those educators to integrate agriculture into their classrooms. This effort extends to MSFBs support of the Mississippi Childrens Museum, which had more than 200,000 visitors last year. MSFB provides funding and materials that emphasize agricultures importance to the states history and economy. This partnership has produced a weekly activity, Farm Bureau Fridays that especially spotlight agriculture.The Safety Department of MSFB also reaches into classrooms across the state. Courses on ATV, tractor, and shop safety CPR anti-drunk driving and anti-distracted driving courses are taught. The Safety Department also reaches the active producer members of MSFB with courses on proper chemical handling, tractor safety, shop safety, and general workplace safety with a special emphasis on the farm environment. The Safety Department this year began holding a specialized course dealing with grain bin safety. The safety specialists also teach basic agriculture facts as part of their courses, with emphasis on the role of agriculture in everyones day to day lives.MSFB promotes agricultures importance to the general public through a variety of programs. Several of the volunteer leaders/members of MSFB have received training on making informational presentations to the general public about agricultures importance to everyone. MSFB works with other organizations on a statewide advertising campaign, the Ag Image Campaign, which educates and informs the general public about agriculture. MSFB also produces a bi-monthly magazine for all its members. The magazine features the commodities produced in Mississippi, spotlights various producers from all around the state, and conveys information about MSFB programs and events.MSFB seeks to identify and train leaders in this state. One program is the Young Farmer and Rancher YFR program, which seeks out active producers age 18 to 35 to learn about and work with the MSFB organization as leaders. The participants in the YFR program receive training through MSFB, and also have the opportunity to interact with participants from other states at national meetings. Many of the leaders surfaced through the YFR program go on to be leaders at the county, state, and national levels of the Farm Bureau organization. MSFB also provides training to the county farm bureau board members and state committee members. The training emphasizes their roles and responsibilities as volunteer leaders in the farm bureau organization. MSFB provides training and information for each of the recognized commodities in Mississippi. MSFB maintains specialists for each of these commodities, who organize meetings to provide timely information to the producers. These specialists stay current on research developments and pass along the information as it becomes available.MSFB policy is directed solely by its individual producer members. The policy development process begins with a policy presented at a county farm bureau policy meeting. Any policy approved at the county level is then forwarded to MSFB for consideration. These policies are reviewed and voted upon by the state resolutions committee. All issues which are favorably acted upon by the committee are then forwarded for action by the delegate body at the annual membership meeting of MSFB. Policies which are approved by the delegates become policy for MSFB. Any policies that might have national implications are forwarded to the American Farm Bureau Federation for consideration at their annual membership meeting.
