WE HAVE BEEN SELECTED BY THE NATIONAL Y AND THE LANCE ARMSTRONG FOUNDATION TO IMPLEMENT LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA, A HOLISTIC HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAM, DESIGNED FOR CANCER SURVIVORS. THIS YMCA OFFERS INFORMATIONAL PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR ON TOPICS SUCH AS STRESS MANAGEMENT, DIABETES SCREENING, LIVING WITH DIABETES, MAKING FRIENDS WITH FOOD, ETC. COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE FREE EVENTS. 185,557 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ENSURED OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO WOULD OTHERWISE NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE AT THE Y. 4B SPORTS - ADULT AND YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS HELP CHILDREN AND ADULTS DEVELOP AND IMPROVE PHYSICAL SKILLS AS WELL AS FOSTERING RELATIONSHIPS AMONG TEAM MEMBERS AND COACHES AND PLAYERS. SPRING AND FALL SOCCER, YOUTH BASKETBALL, TEEN BASKETBALL, 18+ ADULT BASKETBALL, 35+ ADULT BASKETBALL, 55+ ADULT BASKETBALL, ADULT VOLLEYBALL, T-BALL, SOCCER CAMPS, VOLLEYBALL CAMPS, YOUTH BASKETBALL CAMPS, ADULT, CHILD AND INFANT SWIMMING LESSONS, ADULT AND CHILD SWIMMING CLUBS ARE OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. COMMUNITY PARTICIPANTS ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE ON TEAMS, EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT Y MEMBERS. THE WILMINGTON FAMILY YMCA PARTNERS WITH OUTSIDE BUSINESSES AND ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE NATIONALLY KNOWN EVENTS SUCH AS THE TRI-SPAN RACE AND THE PPD BEACH TO BATTLESHIP (B2B) IRON DISTANCE TRIATHLON, IN WHICH APPROXIMATELY 1,900 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN 2013. EXPECTATIONS ARE THAT PARTICIPATION WILL INCREASE THIS YEAR. OUR TRI-CLUB OFFERS SEASONAL SESSIONS, SUPPORTING PARTICIPANTS TO SET GOALS AND TRAIN FOR TRIATHLON EVENTS. WE PROVIDED OVER 5,100 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN Y SPORTS. 4C YOUTH - THE WILMINGTON FAMILY YMCA OFFERS DAY CAMP, RESIDENT CAMP AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT. EACH PROGRAM PROMOTES SPIRITUAL AWARENESS, MENTAL DEVELOPMENT, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING AND EMPHASIZES THE CHARACTER VALUES OF HONESTY, CARING, RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT AND FAITH. ALL DAY CAMPS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO STORYTELLING, SKITS, ARTS AND CRAFTS, SWIMMING, GAMES, MUSIC, BASEBALL, SOCCER, AND CHEERLEADING. GIRLS ON THE RUN AND STRIDE OFFER GIRLS AND BOYS THE OPPORTUNITY TO STRENGTHEN THEIR SELF-ESTEEM WHILE TRAINING TO RUN 5K RACES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE WILMINGTON FAMILY Y HAS PARTNERED WITH OTHER YS IN 13 COUNTIES FOR GOTR AND 7 FOR STRIDE, BRINGING OPPORTUNITIES TO GIRLS AND BOYS THROUGHOUT REGION. 23,900 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THIS PROGRAM ALONE ENSURED A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDREN WHO WOULD NOT OTHERWISE HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE. DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR OUR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM ENSURES OUR CHILDREN ARE SAFE AND HAVE FUN. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED 22,700 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN 2013. THE Y GUIDES AND PRINCESS PROGRAM OFFERS FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF EVENTS, STRENGTHENING THAT MOST IMPORTANT BOND AND BUILDING SELF-ESTEEM FOR YOUNG GIRLS. OUR KIDS ZONE OFFERS YOGA, ZUMBA AND WII IN AFTERNOONS THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. |
