What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? AZCDL is a non-partisan organization dedicated to the principle contained in Article II, Section 2 of the Arizona Constitution that governments derive their powers from the consent of the governed and are established to protect and maintain individual rights.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Education Outreach to educate the citizens of Az and involve them in the legislative process. 1) Using volunteers, AZCDL maintains outreach at public events related to our goals and accomplishments. We interact with hundreds of thousands of citizens during the year and provide them with information on current law and pending legislation in Arizona. 2) During the legislative session we post the status of legislation we support or oppose on our website. 3) Legislative Alerts are sent to over 13,000 subscribers along with posting to our website. Our alerts contain updates on pending legislation we support or oppose. 4) We maintain an online Legislative Action Center that allows constituents to contact state and federal elected and appointed officials. We have made this available to the public to encourage them to use it. Over 40,000 messages were sent to AZ legislators and the Governor in 2014.

29 Legislative advocacy Supporting legislative activities that enforce Article II, Section 2 of the Arizona Constitution. 1) During the Arizona Legislation session, AZCDL representatives interact with elected officials on an almost daily basis. We monitor and provide input on pending legislation to individual legislators as well as providing testimony at committee hearings. We also research and provide summaries, talking points, and position papers on legislation we are monitoring. 2) Between legislative sessions, we evaluate the effect of current laws and research proposed changes. AzCDL representatives meet with legislators to provide input on proposals being considered for upcoming sessions.

30 Membership outreach to stimulate interest and political participation and involvement in AzCDL. 1) In addition to providing education outreach at public events, AZCDL uses these opportunities for recruiting members, and introducing the public to our mission, goals and accomplishments. 2) A newsletter is published quarterly, providing members with updates on legislation and AzCDL activities and events. 3) AZCDL has staggered terms of office for the Board of Directors to insure that a Director election is held annually. 4) An annual meeting is held, open to the public, where elected officials and candidates for state office are given an opportunity to speak with those in attendance.
