| Form 990, Part III, line 2 | United Way has 4 main funding cycles: Basic Needs, Education, Income Stability and Health. In 2014, United Way investors reviewed applications for programs in the Basic Needs funding category. United Way divides applications across groups (panels) of volunteers. All volunteers are United Way investors. In 2014, 103 volunteers served on 9 panels and reviewed 28 total applications for funding. The volunteer reviewers consider program applications, applicant financial statements, and conduct on-site interviews. Each volunteer panel makes recommendations to the Community Investment Committee (CIC). The Community Investment Committee is made up of one volunteer representative from each panel. Together, they review the recommendations of each panel and form one consensus recommendation made to the United Way Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees recommended to begin investing in one new program: Lutheran Social Services of ND/Geriatric Care Management |

In order to address these basic needs, United Way invests in four areas of basic needs: 1. Food: Ensuring individuals and families in need have access to feeding programs 2. Shelter: Providing immediate security and shelter for individuals and families who are homeless 3. Safety: Ensuring children and families have access to protective services 4. Vulnerable Individuals: Providing opportunities for individuals of all abilities to lead productive lives |
