STATEWIDE LOCAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZING - Worked to advance grassroots campaigns to generate government revenue by increasing taxes on the wealthy and corporations at the state and federal level, pass national immigration reform, accept federal funding to expand Medicaid, reduce the use of toxic chemicals in consumer products, reduce the influence of money in Maine politics, and demonstrate broad public support for protection of programs like Social Security and Medicare, among others. We are known for our ability to do grassroots organizing and education that reaches more than 100,000 Mainers each year with direct personal contact and quality leadership development work.

PROGRESSIVE COALITION SERVICES As part of its overall organizing and educational mission, MPA offers its organizational structure for like-minded projects. Maine Votes, the sole project of this type currently working out of MPA, is a state-based collaborative campaign and political activity table built to establish collective action around a common agenda by serving as a campaign hub, improving long-term coordination by providing data, targeting, and the Voter File to top-tier political organizations. Maine Votes is focused on progressive economic policies, and protecting and expanding voting rights and helping allies win elected office. Maine Votes is an affiliate of America Votes, one of 19 states in the America Votes family.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4d Program Service Expenses 117,203, Grants and allocations 0, Revenue 4,194 TELEPHONE CANVASS - Public outreach and education staff contacts households in Maine via telephone to distribute issue-oriented information, renew members, and solicit contributions. In 2014, the MPA Phone Canvass had phone conversations with 15,000 members.
Form 990, Part IV, Line 34 RELATED ORGANIZATIONS MPA is not reporting a relationship with another exempt organization on Sch R because the definition of related for purposes of this return requires majority Board control that does not exist. While MPA has a close and continuous relationship with Maine Peoples Resource Center MPRC, a 501c3, and shares staff and various costs, the organizations do not control or are not controlled by the other. They have no shared Board members, though the Executive Director was hired by each organization 36 for MPA and 64 for MPRC in 2014. As noted on Schedule B, MPA has received 170,420 in Grants from MPRC for civic engagement work in 2014.
Form 990, Part IV, Line 6 7a MAINE PEOPLES ALLIANCE IS A MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION. The Members are invited to the annual meeting to elect Board members and can participate in that vote.
