PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTSDonors continue to spread joy and change lives through the 4,025 charitable funds established at InFaith Community Foundation. Each donor, gift and fund is part of InFaiths vision to achieve effective, positive and lasting change throughout our local, national and global community. To better align the Foundations name with its mission, the Foundation legally changed its name from Lutheran Community Foundation to InFaith Community Foundation in November of 2013. This change was successfully launched to donors, grantees and the broader community in early 2014. Individuals and families created 216 new Donor Advised Funds in 2014. Faith-based nonprofits and churches established 30 new Organizational Endowment Funds at the Foundation. The Foundation conducted its annual donor survey through an independent research firm in the fall of 2014. This survey was sent to half of the Foundations donor base (approximately 1,200 donors), and in 2014, 41% of surveyed donors responded. Donors reported a high level of overall satisfaction at 97%, and more than four-fifths of donors were likely to recommend the Foundation to others. Overall feedback and verbatim responses were confidential and provided valuable input to improve Foundation services to all donors. Foundation gifts totaled $63.98 million in 2014. Total outright and deferred gifts since inception exceed $973.1 as of December 31, 2014. In 2014, funds of the Foundation granted a record $16.04 million to 3,587 charities, bringing total grants to $123.77 million since inception in 1995. The majority of these grants (90%) were distributed from Donor Advised Funds. The remaining 10% of grants were distributed from Organizational Endowment Funds and InFaith Collaborative Funds. Dynamic Donor Advised Funds granted 12.5% of total Dynamic Fund assets in 2014, Designated Donor Advised Funds granted 6.7% and Organizational Endowment Funds granted 5.6%. The Foundation conducted thorough due diligence processes with multiple checks and balances to verify that all grantees were qualifying recipients and in good standing. Types of charities recommended to receive support include: churches (30%); education (18%); human services (17%); faith-based nonprofits (15%); health services (8%); arts and culture (4%); environmental concerns (3%); disaster relief (3%); and other (2%). The Foundation once again earned Charity Navigators top four-star rating for sound fiscal management in 2014. It also received GuideStars top rating for transparency and commitment to excellence. The Foundation continually monitors three investment portfolios Growth, Mission and Income to support gift and grant activity and fulfil donors charitable intentions. The Foundation adheres to the investment fundamentals of professional active management, allocation among seven asset classes and a long-term investment strategy for donor gift assets. To maintain accountability as stewards of Foundation gifts and funds, the Foundation kept donors informed of charitable fund performance and activity through quarterly reports, online access, annual report and an annual investment call featuring the Foundations investment advisor, Cambridge Associates. Donors continue to be encouraged to call the Foundation for any questions they have on their charitable funds. Assets of the Foundation reached $342.2 million as of December 31, 2014. Through ongoing measurement and reporting, the Foundations Board of Directors monitored results of the three Board-defined outcomes in 2014: 1) Encourage the Lutheran community, together with all Christians, to experience joy in giving; 2) To connect assets, opportunities and needs so that lives are transformed; and 3) Create effective, positive and lasting change of communities and institutions.
4b (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 126,812 including grants of $ 124,812 ) (Revenue $   )
InFaith Community Foundation (the Foundation) advanced its mission through a number of donor and program services in 2014. Improved online services were introduced to donors in early 2014. Through DonorView at InFaithFound.org, fund advisors now have access to a number of services to help manage their donor advised funds. New services include the option to go paperless with quarterly fund statements, request one-time or recurring grants from a donor advised fund or endowment, access fund documents, review the funds grant history and add online access for additional parties, such as family members and/or a financial advisor. In order to provide donors and organizations with more opportunity to recommend investment allocations for their Dynamic Donor Advised Fund and Organizational Endowment Fund assets, the Foundation introduced a new customized fund allocation option. Donors may now recommend a custom asset allocation among the Foundations Growth Portfolio, Mission Portfolio and/or Income Portfolio to match their grantmaking goals. InFaiths website, InFaithFound.org, was continually updated and refined to provide donor-friendly access to InFaith giving options, tools and resources. Program Initiatives of the InFaith Collaborative FundsInFaith Community Foundations mission and vision are driven by a rich Christian tradition of working together to address important and diverse societal issues with creativity, passion and purpose. Through its Collaborative Funds, the Foundation focuses on increasing the capacity of churches and other public charities by engaging in meaningful grantmaking with measurable results. Donor gifts allow the Foundation to facilitate larger impact grants that work alongside public charities at the ground level and create strategic responses to issues facing our shared community. Donor interests, community assessment and research guide how the community benefits. Gifts of any size are welcome to any of the InFaith Collaborative Funds. Following are 2014 grant highlights from InFaith Collaborative Funds. The Foundation continued its sponsorship of Safe and Healthy Church Workshops as part of its Ending Family Violence Initiative. This training is designed to help Christian pastors and lay leaders understand the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, and the ramifications of violence on individuals, the church and the community. Church clergy and lay leaders who attended these workshops in 2014 returned to their churches equipped to respond to victims/survivors and be safe places for the most vulnerable from a faith-based perspective.
4c (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 85,709 including grants of $ 85,709 ) (Revenue $   )
InFaith Community Fund: Creation Care Environmental Initiative This initiative takes a Christian approach to building awareness of, and lasting change to, our relationship with Gods creation. Its focus is threefold: 1) Help churches reduce their energy footprint; 2) Promote leadership around creation care among pastors, laity and resident theologians within the Christian community; and 3) Engage donors around the concern of creation care and support their individual and collective efforts to make an impact. In 2014, the Foundation granted to the Minneapolis Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America to initiate the Nehemiah Loan Fund. This project will provide revolving loans to churches interested in reducing energy consumption and costs through building projects outside of their financial capacity. It also supported an intensive three-day conference of environmental directors who serve at outdoor ministry sites.
