Part IIIStatement of Program Service Accomplishments (see the instructions for Part III) Check if the organization used Schedule O to respond to any question in this Part III . Expenses
(Required for section 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations; optional for others.)
What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The Utility District Employees' Association (UDEA) promotes a spirit of friendship and unity among the employees of the District.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 The Utility District Employees Association (UDEA) promotes a spirit of friendship and unity among the employees of the District through sponsorship of social recreational activities; extends sympathy and good wishes to members who suffer misfortune; acknowledges the service of members who retire and informs members about recreational activities of interest in the community and about special rates and discounts that may be available through UDEA membership. The UDEA negotiates group rates for various activities and then uses revenues from membership dues to further reduce the cost of these activities. This makes them available to members and families who might otherwise not be able to attend such function. All functions are conducted by volunteers. Employee Picnic This is UDEAs most resource intensive activity. It is held for employees and families, usually during the month of August, it provides an opportunity fellow employees to spend more time together in a fun, social non-work setting. Traditionally it is held at an amusement park or similar facility able to accommodate a large number of people. There are various activities and a BBQ style lunch is served. There are many activities for children as well as adults. UDEA partially subsidized the 2014 picnic event held at Great America in Santa Clara in August 2014. Children's Holiday Party For employees with children / grandchildren between the ages of 0 to 12, a holiday party is held in December with small gifts provided for each child. This is one of UDEAs most important event which promotes family and fellowship among employees. The volunteer committee selects toys, wraps them, sets up the event, invites families, decorates, and facilitates activities. Toys are purchased in bulk at discount rates. Additional toys are sold to members with children / grandchildren at the discount rate to ensure these families can have a fun holiday - the UDEA does not make a profit on these sales. Retiree Gifts & Acknowledgment Upon retirement of a member, they are provided a "lifetime membership" in UDEA which enables them to continue to receive UDEA Benefits and stay in touch with friends while participating in UDEA activities. Sympathy, Get Well and CongratulationsWhen a member has a death in the family a sympathy card is sent to the family on behalf of fellow employees, this is done by a volunteer coordinator. Similarly when an illness strikes a family a Get Well Card is sent and on the birth of a child or grandchild a card of congratulations is sent. Events throughout the year These activities are not scheduled on a specific date, discounts are arranged and members can obtain reduced price tickets to be used at their convenience (subsidized). They are family oriented activities to help strengthen family ties. A volunteer coordinator handles the ticket sales. The UDEA does not make any profit on these sales. They include Discovery Kingdom, Great America, Legoland, Universal Studios, Water World, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Movie TicketsCorporate DiscountsThe UDEA also arranges discount tickets without a subsidy for some activities of general interest. Members are provided web sites or phone numbers and then deal directly with the providers. These include UC Basketball, Participating Ski Resorts, Disneyland, and discounts on Cell phone, Automobile purchases and Dell Computers Special EventsThe UDEA arranges for special discounts and a block of seats for entertainment and sporting events during the year. Handled by a volunteer coordinator these special discounted tickets are sold to members and their families. Events in 2014 included professional sports games; horse races; theater productions; circuses; fishing expeditions; Garlic Festival field trip, and discounted visits to the Academy of Sciences. Sponsored Athletic Events UDEA sponsors (8) golf tournaments and (2) softball leagues.
