PART V, LINE 4: AS OF JUNE 30, 2015, THE CIC STATE FUND ENDOWMENT HAD A DIVERSIFIED PORTFOLIO VALUED AT OVER $40 MILLION. GRANT AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS IN SUPPORT OF CIC STATE FUND MEMBER AND THEIR MEMBER COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES ARE FUNDED THROUGH A DRAWDOWN FROM THE ENDOWMENT. SINCE ITS IMPLEMENTATION IN 1985, THE UPS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM HAS BEEN A CORE INITIATIVE OF FIRST FIHE AND NOW CIC. THROUGH ITS ENDOWMENT, FIHE AND CIC HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AWARD OVER $50 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS TO DESERVING STUDENTS AT INDEPENDENT COLLEGES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE GIVEN IN THE NAME OF UNITED PARCEL SERVICE (UPS), WHOSE CONTINUING SUPPORT HAS BEEN CRITICAL TO THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE NETWORK OF STATE ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. FOR THE 2014-2015 MEMBERSHIP YEAR, CIC AWARDED UPS SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING OVER $1.48 MILLION TO STATE FUND MEMBERS, PROVIDING FINANCIAL AID TO 613 STUDENTS NATIONWIDE. THE ENDOWMENT ALSO FUNDS GRANT PROGRAMS AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS SUPPORTING STATE FUND MEMBERS. PART X, LINE 2: IN JUNE 2006, THE FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING STANDARDS BOARD (FASB) ISSUED FASB ASC NO. 740-10 [FORMERLY INTERPRETATION NO. 48 (FIN 48)], ACCOUNTING FOR UNCERTAINTY IN INCOME TAXES, WHICH IS AN INTERPRETATION OF ASC 740'S (FORMERLY SFAS NO. 109), ACCOUNTING FOR INCOME TAXES. FASB ASC NO. 740-10 CLARIFIES THE ACCOUNTING FOR UNCERTAINTY IN INCOME TAXES RECOGNIZED IN COUNCIL OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGE'S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASC 740'S AND PRESCRIBES A RECOGNITION THRESHOLD AND MEASUREMENT ATTRIBUTE FOR THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT RECOGNITION AND MEASUREMENT OF A TAX POSITION TAKEN OR EXPECTED TO BE TAKEN IN A TAX RETURN. FASB ASC NO. 740-10 REQUIRES THE EVALUATION OF TAX POSITIONS TAKEN OR EXPECTED TO BE TAKEN IN THE COURSE OF PREPARING THE COUNCIL OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGE'S TAX RETURN TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE TAX POSITIONS HAVE A "MORE-LIKELY-THAN-NOT" PROBABILITY OF BEING SUSTAINED BY THE APPLICABLE TAX AUTHORITY. THE COUNCIL OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES PERFORMED AN EVALUATION OF UNCERTAIN TAX POSITIONS FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2015, AND DETERMINED THAT THERE WERE NO MATTERS THAT WOULD REQUIRE RECOGNITION IN THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS OR THAT MAY HAVE ANY EFFECT ON ITS TAX-EXEMPT STATUS. AS OF JUNE 30, 2015, THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS FOR TAX YEARS 2011 THROUGH 2013 REMAINS OPEN WITH THE U.S. FEDERAL JURISDICTION OR THE VARIOUS STATES AND LOCAL JURISDICTIONS IN WHICH THE ORGANIZATION FILES TAX RETURNS. PART I, LINE 1A THE SOCIAL CLUB IS USED AS A VENUE FOR THE PRESIDENT TO MEET PRIVATELY WITH KEY HIGHER EDUCATION LEADERS.
PART I, LINE 4B THE COUNCIL OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES MAINTAINS AN INELIGIBLE PLAN OF DEFERRED COMPENSATION UNDER SECTION 457(F) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE. DEFERRED COMPENSATION REPRESENTS AN EXECUTIVE SALARY CONTINUATION AGREEMENT ENTERED INTO WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE ORGANIZATION. THE AGREEMENT CALLS FOR ANNUAL PAYMENTS BY THE ORGANIZATION REPRESENTING TWENTY PERCENT (20%) OF BASE SALARY AS WELL AS INTEREST EXPENSE TO BE ACCRUED ON EACH ANNIVERSARY DATE BASED ON THE MOODY'S SEASONED AAA CORPORATE BOND YIELD. THE PARTICIPANT IS NOT PERMITTED TO MAKE SALARY REDUCTION DEFERRALS UNDER THIS PLAN. THE EXPENSE FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2015 WAS $137,060.
