LAKEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1951 SCHOLARSHIP FUND & ENDOWMENT - CARL CERVENY SCHOLARSHIP - THE WHEAT RIDGE OPTIMISTS ESTABLISHED AN ANNUAL 2,000 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP IN HONOR OF CARL CERVENY. CARL STARTED THE WHEAT RIDGE OPTIMISTS IN 1957 AND IS STILL VERY ACTIVE WITH THE OPTIMISTS AND WHEAT RIDGE COMMUNITY. HE ATTENDS WEEKLY MEETINGS AND CONDUCTS THE SCHOLARSHIP REVIEWS, INTERVIEWS, AND PRESENTS THE WINNER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS BANQUET. |

THE FUNDS ARE ADMINISTERD BY THE CULTURAL COMMISSION. IN 2015, THE FOUNDATION MADE A GRANT OF 250.00 FOR WHEAT RIDGE READS. KITE FLITE FESTIVAL - THE PURPOSE OF THE FESTIVAL IS TO LINK NEIGHBORS, YOUNG AND OLD, IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY CAN HAVE FUN AND ENJOY OTHER FAMILIES LIVING IN WHEAT RIDGE WHILE FLYING KITES; PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT WHERE PEOPLE CAN GATHER; USE KITES AS A WAY TO EDUCATE CHILDREN AS TO THE HISTORY, SCIENCE AND MATH RELATED TO KITES; ENCOURAGE ART AND OUTDOOR EXERCISE; ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION BY THOSE WITH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHALLENGES; ENCOURAGE LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS WITH THEIR PEERS. KYLE BRAKE SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP FUND & ENDOWMENT - THE KYLE BRAKE MEMORIAL SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP FUND AND ENDOWMENT WAS ESTABLISHED AS A MEMORIAL TO KYLE BRAKE, A YOUNG BOY WHO LOVED TO PLAY SPORTS. THE ENDOWMENT WILL PROVIDE A PERMANENT SOURCE OF FUNDS FOR CHILDREN'S SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS TO HELP EASE THE FINANCIAL BURDEN ASSOCIATED WITH PARTICIPATING IN ORGANIZED TEAM/INDIVIDUAL SPORTS. SCHOLARSHIPS CAN BE REQUESTED TO COVER REGISTRATION FEES, UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT COSTS. PARTICIPATION IN ORGANIZED TEAM SPORTS PROVIDES PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, ACADEMIC, AND EMOTIONAL BENEFITS TO CHILDREN. IN 2015, 16,000 IN RESTRICTED FUNDS WERE GIVEN TO THE KYLE BRAKE MEMORIAL SCHOLORSHIP FUND INC. A 501(C)(3) ESTABLISHED TO OVERSEE THE AWARDING OF SCHOLARSHIPS. THE WHEAT RIDGE FOUNDATION STILL ADMINISTERS THE ENDOWMENT FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS. SENIOR FUND - THE WHEAT RIDGE ACTIVE ADULT CENTER OFFERS A WIDE VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES FOR THE 50 AND UP CROWD. PARTICIPANTS CAN CHOOSE FROM NUMEROUS EXERCISE CLASSES AND A VARIETY OF GENERAL INTEREST CLASSES. THE ACTIVE ADULT CENTER ALSO OFFERS AN EXCELLENT TRIP PROGRAM AND MANY WONDERFUL SPECIAL EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. DONATIONS ARE USED TO FUND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT, AND A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR ADULTS 50 AND OVER FOR PARKS AND RECREATION CLASSES, PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES. THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED THIS PROGRAM WITH A GRANT OF 1,000 IN 2015. PERFORMANCE IN THE PARK - PERFORMANCE IN THE PARK IS A FREE, OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT SERIES THAT TAKES PLACE OUTDOORS IN AN AREA PARK DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. GENEROUS CITIZEN AND BUSINESS CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE SUPPORTED MORE THAN 25 CONCERTS SINCE INCEPTION. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED 1,475 IN SUPPORT OF THIS PROGRAM IN 2015. MEMORIAL PARK PROGRAM - THE MEMORIAL PARK PROGRAM ALLOWS FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO HONOR A LOVED ONE BY PURCHASING A TREE OR BENCH FOR PLACEMENT IN A WHEAT RIDGE PARK OR BY PURCHASING A MEMORIAL BRICK FOR PLACEMENT ON THE WALKWAY OF THE VETERANS MEMORIAL GAZEBO LOCATED IN HAYWARD PARK; ONE SECTION OF THE WALKWAY IS RESERVED FOR BRICKS HONORING NON-VETERANS AND ONE SECTION IS FOR BRICKS LISTING THE NAME OF A VETERAN. CONTRIBUTIONS MAY BE DESIGNATED IN THE PERSONS NAME. MEMORIALS TOTALLING 1,515 WERE PLACED IN 2015. THE WHEAT RIDGE OPTIMIST CLUB IS A SERVICE ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO "BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN KIDS". IT IS ONE OF OVER 2,900 OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL MEMBER CLUBS LOCATED ALL AROUND THE WORLD DEDICTATED TO PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT YOUTH IN EACH COMMUNITY. IN 2015, THE FOUNDATION AWARDED A 5,000 GRANT TO THE WHEAT RIDGE JUNIOR OPTIMISTS. STEVENS ELEMENTARY HOLIDAY PROJECT - THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED THIS PROGRAM BY PURCHASING 1,576 OF TOYS IN 2015. STEVENS ELEMENTARY IN WHEAT RIDGE, IS A TITLE 1 SCHOOL WITH 431 STUDENTS, KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE 6. THE SCHOOL HAS AN 84% FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH RATE. IN 2015 EVERY STUDENT WAS PRESENTED WITH A WRAPPED, AGE-APPROPRIATE TOY TO TAKE HOME ON THE LAST DAY BEFORE WINTER BREAK. 44TH AVENUE CRUISE - THE FREE EVENT IS A CLASSIC CAR SHOW AND POKER RUN ALONG 44TH AVENUE IN WHEAT RIDGE. PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE WHEAT RIDGE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. IN 2015, 2,661 WAS RAISED AND A GRANT IN THIS AMOUNT WAS MADE BY THE FOUNDATION TO THE STEM PROGRAM AT WHEAT RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL. EASTER EGG HUNT - THE EASTER EGG HUNT IS A LONG TIME TRADITION FOR THE WHEAT RIDGE COMMUNITY, MARKING IT'S 40TH YEAR IN 2015 EVERY YEAR, THIS FREE EVENT BRINGS FAMILIES AND FRIENDS TOGETHER TO WELCOME SPRING TO WHEAT RIDGE.
