AEMSA aims to accomplish the promotion of safety and responsibility through self-regulation and by creating, implementing, and upholding standards for the manufacture of e-liquids.

Awareness Project and the goal was to increase the level of education on AEMSA and manufacturing standards that are in place for the benefit of the consumer. Education was focused on businesses in the electronic cigarette market, as well as the overall consumer population and regulators.

Membership in Tobacco Merchants Association TMA was founded to manage information of vital interest to interested organizations, companies, regulators and others who need information on the worldwide tobacco and e-vapor industries. Today, the TMA continues to function as a trade association and remains dedicated to supplying factual information to a variety of universities and other research groups, organizations, companies, associations, and others whose revenues, whether from sales, grants or other sources depend upon timely, comprehensive and accurate data about the global tobacco and e-vapor industry.

Form 990, Part III, Line 3 Ceased Program - no additional funds given in 2015 - Establish ERF 501c3 status - First announcement and soft-launch of the E-Research Foundation ERF As part of the 2014 budget, AEMSA members decided to allocate a portion of their dues to fund preliminary establishment of this new foundation - AEMSA is currently sole member of ERF organization. ERF primary mission is to facilitate advancing research urgently needed to educate consumers, the industry, regulators, media and the world in general. The AEMSA 2014 budget included a line item of 15,000 to contribute towards the legal expenses to incorporate, file for 501c3 status, develop the legal and operational structure and bylaws, etc. The total legal bill to ERF was approximatly 30,000 but AEMSA had committed to a limited contribution of 15,000.

Form 990, Part III, Line 3 Ceased Program - Donation to New Mexico Republican Campaign for a State level seat for a single candidate - the donation to the Republican Committee to be assigned to the candidate - donation was returned to AEMSA with reason of excessive donations received by the campaign.
Form 990, Part III, Line 3 Ceased Program - Flavor Initiative The basic e-liquid ingredients - propylene glycol PG, vegetable glycerin VG, and nicotine - have been studied in depth and are the subject of extensive research. In addition to PG, VG, and nicotine, e-liquids contain formulated flavoring components which provide the many flavors that are enjoyed by adult consumers. AEMSA has run a campaign encouraging and providing guidance to its members to have their e-liquid flavoring products tested using third-party accredited labs using appropriate and scientifically verified analytical detection limits and procedures.
Form 990, Part III, Line 2 New Program - Awareness Project - the goal was to increase the level of education on AEMSA and manufacturing standards that are in place for the benefit of the consumer. Education was focused on businesses in the electronic cigarette market, as well as the overall consumer population and regulators.
Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 Governing documents standards and by-laws are posted at all times on the organizations website and available to view by the public. Financial documents are emailed to all board members and certified members dues paying members - and are available by request to others as needed.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c The AEMSA Board requires each Leadership Volunteer to complete and submit an annual Statement of Disclosure detailing any facts or circumstances that might constitute a conflict of interest. Additionally, the Board shall require Leadership Volunteers to submit an amended Statement of Disclosure to reflect any material changes or additions to the submitted information that may arise during the course of the year. Leadership Volunteers are advised to err on the side of disclosure and to report any set of circumstances that may appear to pose a conflict of interest, even if there is uncertainty as to whether such circumstances should be disclosed.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15a-b The Board shall review and approve the compensation of individuals compensated by AEMSA. In approving compensation, the Board shall satisfy the then current requirements and procedures to take advantage of what the Internal Revenue Service and income tax regulations refer to as the rebuttable presumption that the compensation is reasonable. This standard was reviewed by AEMSAs outside legal counsel.
