The annual meeting provides a forum for the exchange of technical informaiton related to the practice of pediatric surgery, to promote research in the field of pediatric surgery, and to present the most current developments in the field of pediatric surgery to its members. The annual meeting also provide an opportunity for members to obtain CME credits for attendance. Approximately 790 attended.

Publications educate members, the public, patients, and those in related fields in areas such as field advancements, in techniques and services, availability and access to resources and pediatric surgeons. Publications provide an eduction for patients and families in areas of support and healthier living, allow for access to exams, etc. That will result in CME credits. The newsletter was circulated to approximately 1,200 members. The webiste consists of one section aimed at pediatric surgeons and other professionals and a second section dedicated to pediatric patients and their families.

The staff at Kellen offers advice to APSA's board; however these staff do not hold a voting position on APSA's board or committees.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 6: Explanation of Classes of Members or Shareholder Regular members-- must meet education and practice qualifications to be accepted; may vote and hold office.Candidate members--must meet education and practice qualifications to be accepted;may not vote or hold office; however, they may be appointed to serve on committees by the president as consultant member for up to two years.Charter members-- members joined on April 15, 1970.Honorary members-- offered by unanimous vote of board of governors and two third vote of the voting membership at the annual meeting; they will not be able to hold office.International members--must meet education and practice qualifications to be accepted;may not vote or hold office.Associate members--must meet education and practice qualifications to be accepted;may vote but may not hold office.Resident members--must be a general surgery resident in an ACGME approved program. The term of membership will be for one year and will automatically expire by then unless extension applied and approved.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 7a: How Members or Shareholders Elect Governing Body Regular and associate members may vote to elect the officers and the board of governors. These shall be elected by written ballot mailed by the nominating committee to the membership three months prior to the annual meeting and the nominees for each office obtaining the majority vote should be elected.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 7b: Describe Decisions of Governing Body Approval by Members or Shareholders Any exception for membership must have the majority approval of the board of governors and an affirmative vote by two thrids of the voting membership at an annual meeting/business meeting. Honorary membership may be conferred upon a physician for outstanding contributions to pediatric surgery by unanimous vote of the board of governors and an affirmative vote by two-thrids of the voting membership attending the annual/business meeting.Upon the recommendation of the membership and credentials committee with approval of the board, the list of applicants shall be circulated to the membership-at-large twice per year for voting.Dues shall be set by the board of governors and approved by the membership at the annual meeting. Upon request for appearl, the membership present shall confirm or refute the recommendation of the board of governors by simple written majority vote. This vote shall be considered binding and final.The board shall pass recommendations on candidates for membership to the entire membership.Two-thrids vote of the membership voting at the annual meeting will be necessary for adoption of a change or amendment of the bylaws of the association.
