Return Reference Explanation
Part X, Line 2: The Foundation is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Unrelated business income, of which the Foundation had no significant amounts for the years ended December 31, 2014 and 2013, is subject to federal income taxes. Accordingly, there is no provision or liability for federal income taxes in the accompanying financial statements. The Foundation recognizes the tax benefits from uncertain tax positions only if it is more likely than not that the tax positions will be sustained on examination by the taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the positions. The tax benefits recognized in the consolidated financial statements from such positions are measured based on the largest benefit that had a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. The Foundation files informational returns in the U.S. federal jurisdiction. With few exceptions, the Foundation is no longer subject to U.S. federal tax examinations by tax authorities for years prior to 2012.
