What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF GRACELAND CEMETERY ASSOCIATION IS THE CARE AND MAINTENACE OF THE CEMETERY AND ITS ASSETS. GRAVE PLOTS ARE SOLD AND BURIAL FEES (OPEN & CLOSE) REPRESENT THE MAJOR SOURCES OF FUNDING. FROM TIME TO TIME, INDIVIDUALS BEQUEATH VARIOUS SUMS OF MONEY FROM THEIR ESTATES TO HELP MAINTAIN THE CEMETERY GROUNDS. THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS SAFEGUARDING THE ASSETS OF THE CEMETERY AND PROPER USE OF AVAILABLE FUNDS TO MAINTAIN THE CEMETERY.

28 THE CEMETERY, WITH AVAILABLE FUNDS, HAS BEEN ABLE TO MAINTAIN THE GROUNDS OF THE CEMETERY WHICH HAS ALWAYS BEEN A MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT. WITH THE LARGE CONTRIBUTION RECEIVED DURING THE 2015 TAX YEAR, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS HOPE TO BE ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF DEFERRED MAINTENANCE ISSUES AS WELL AS MAINTAINING CEMETERY GROUNDS.
